It is becoming the case now, isn't it? I've considered many times now mounting a missile on my Greyhound. It's gotten to the point now that just about every fighter, at least in Liberty, has at least one or two missiles. And if you're the only one in a fight without missiles, you aren't gonna be making any kills - or damage, for that matter. Shields regenerate too fast for you to cause significant damage by the time you're forced to evade another missile.
It's starting to become a case now of if you can't beat them, join them. That's something I'll have to think about more if I ever get a stable internet connection in the near future...
Its the better missile damage combined with the faster speed of the fighter that is making it so bad. They can zoom in and out of range quickly and many ships that used to excel at fighting off fighters (the BH gunship for example) have been nerfed to mediocrity. Some gunboat class ships have had diminished maneuver added or reduced zones of overlapping gun coverage.
I actually like fighters being a greater threat to a gunship/gunboat as they were almost none before but the balance has tilted to their favor.
Possible counters--increase solaris range and slightly reduce power consumption or increase refire of GB missiles--just very slightly.
Gunboats and gunships? What? Sorry, missiles still don't pose much a threat to a gunboat, while gunboats still can tear open fighters and bombers like tin cans.

Actually, while flying both my fighters, bombers, and my gunboat, I've noticed that the gunboats have not really diminished in strength, and I'm inclined to think of it more as a myth.
Gunboats now have larger armor than before, and the same gun strength.
Three fighters on a gunboat is considered equal odds, and if two don't have razors or stronger weapons, they have no chance mostly.
But as someone said, this is not a discussion for this here thread, as missiles are 0 threat to gunboats.

The Hornet got the same stats as the old TCD from 4.84 due to testing purposes? Except the speed?

I have also witnessed a problem with the current TCD, because they only hit at perfect pings.
My fighter tactics rely on the use of mines and the TCD, and I also love to blow up enemy missiles.
It would be perfect, if the TCD problem would get spotted and eliminated. Would defuse the missileproblem a lot.
The Razor fighters still have that problem, but a jousting fighter is the best you can get ;-)

Nope... lower armor, and the same gun strength... a bit less shield regen, but hardly noticable.
Anyhow, fighter missiles, the energy use idea might be good, but how much energy? 4k per cannonball? so you turn around in your sabre fire of 7k worth of krakens and punch in 1 cb... turn around and only have energy for 1 cb or 4k worth of krakens? That might be very good yes.
Anyhow the awesomeness of missiles is really disturbing. It kinda ruins the flair. With guns only against an inferior pilot you can really rock, but with missiles in the mix, that hardly works that nice and wicked. It evens out the playing field. missiles could easily get their damage/2=energy use... (soo about 0.5 efficiency) that would atleast limit their use a little.
Bombers are no problem at all anyhow. With any VHF you can take out any bomber with ease. They all have nice hitboxes now and are easy to kill in a VHF. SN is not a threat when your guns actually do enough damage to effectievly kill the bomber. Missiles do help against a bomber but arn't required. (VHF can rape bombers with or without missiles)
