Yeah I guess I put my foot in the mouth by making two disastrous generalizations in my statement; first putting all indies under the same opinion and then second by allowing my opinion to include all events. I apologize. Yes I have met many "independant" players whose RP is of the highest quality (in fact in many cases, it would be OORP for that char to be grouped with others). My argument should (and will from now on) only pertain to this specific set of events.
I will be doing my best in these events to keep things from going out of control. This is primarily an official faction vs an official faction with official results but I am trying to be as inclusive as possible as two of GMG's projects include Kishiro and DSE. Neither have an official faction but I know that they'll feel that they have something at stake so I want to include them. Now all this along with GMG's BD allies means Hogosha is outnumbered and not on home turf. They'll be able to bring allies along for the party and have AFA to choose from as well as a couple official Corsair factions. If we include hired guns (where your FL falls under not indie) than the numbers will already be soaring. Start posting "Independants welcome to participate" and we'll be having a hoard of new GMG, Hogosha, etc... getting in the action and turning the events into something unmanageable.
Well, as I said, my Freelancer would only be trying to get in if GMG ended up numerically shafted. I'm not quite comfortable with the Stinger like I am with the Crow or (*snicker*) Drone.
Why not just let some independents in and limit it - perhaps half as many independents as faction players at most? I understand limiting them because of the ramifications of this event (it's rare to see one that might affect future versions), but that'd allow some in without letting it get out of control.
Perhaps there should be a "whitelist" of Freelancers and Mercenaries that we will allow to participate. Members of this whitelist could be chosen any number of ways, but they should have to prove themselves to the respective faction. Caelum's Freelancer "Shamayim" comes to mind.
Of course I am against non-faction members being used to disrupt the balance of the battle, but if one faction is lacking numbers, I think digging into the "whitelist" is acceptable. As for a limit system, we could impose a ratio of official members to hired hands. How do people feel about 3:1?
I don't mind the idea of a whitelist, in fact I used to have one since you can never tell on the first encounter if the hired gun is looking for a job or is currently employed (with you potentially being the target, yikes). I need to make another one as I have come across 2 Freelancer's already who asked to buy the Taiidan HF and work near our area of space. I also remember two other Freelancers who'd come to the Sigmas and work for us from time to time Sierra.Rivetti and Alexis.Almira.
The use of hired guns and the amount of hired guns may end up being decided on a case by case scenario. A ratio as suggested may seem fine at first but there is an inherent problem to that. The more players one side has - the more hired guns available. It looks like both primary sides of these events are in agreement that these are full fledged RP based events and not the standard PvP contests so I'll leave it to each side to determine through their RP whether they'll hire help, how much and who. As mentioned before I am far less concerned of fairness of numbers, ships, equip etc... and much more concerned with RP merit of what is brought. GMG is indeed more tolerant of gaijin than our Kusari neighbours but we are still less trustfull than say Liberty. As mentioned above hired guns have worked for us and gained our trust. Such chars have always been a welcome sight. Hogosha may have a few themselves. So I'll make it my opinion that the possibilities of hired guns are there but each individual participating is up to the discretion of the leading factions on both sides.
Now about the time and date. I was looking at the timeslots for recurring events and Sat. 15:00 GMT is unclaimed, any objections?
Indies will still be drawn from if we can't get any from established factions (from GMG| side). The hired guns are acceptable and dependant on the RP of the two primary factions involved GMG| and [I]. Remember it is an RP based event; meaning if it's in the RP of your faction than it can be brought to the event. I have trust in both sides to bring what is appropriate and needed for these events. For GMG| the hired guns who want to take part in the events will have to work some of the bounties first (yeah it will be updated tonight). Several have already worked for GMG| extensively and would be trusted enough to be employed for the defence of our top projects, others will have to prove first before qualifying in later events. (There would still be a limit to how many Gaijin the GMG would want guarding their backs though.)
Hiya, 8AM(GMT-8) is a bit of a stretch, but I should be there representing DSE. Now from this Event planning thread it sounded more like we would be running gate parts to the site with transports plus a small escort from us. On the other Event Scheduling thread it sounds more like all Security Wing fighters from us.
It's of no consequence to me either way, but not so much from the rest of our guys. It could just use a little more clarification on the requirements you need from DSE.
