Exactly, whereas the lib cruiser has a main gun that fires very slow, and is very hard to aim.
Now, I dont mind the aiming (its part of the ship) but as slow as it is, a single missed shot can turn the tide of a battle, whereas if the weapon was just set to fire at an evenly adjusted (damage per second) change of rate of fire/damage/power, it would recieve parity again with other ships
well TBH range buff wouldnt help THAT much, the main thing it needs is doubled rate of fire (with coresponding halving of power cost and damage)
Prehaps boost the range to that of the cruiser torpedo turret, or a tad longer, as currently crusier torpedo turrets have a longer range.
Also if range is going to be increased, there should be a slight speed boost to the projectile, actualy a projectile speed boost would make aiming a tad easier and may fix the weapon.
But your right John range is too short on it, its the only seige gun in game, so the range should be the longest in game by a slight ammount.
Once more, the forward gun of Lib and Dragon cruiser is a weapon against battleships, carriers and probably battlecruiser. Against cruiser, destroyer, gb and even smaller ships the forward gun is not designed to be used.
Well, you may hit smaller ships with, but i think most shots will miss. A cruiser forward gun will never go to become useful against small targets. So everyone can stop to complain about the guns uselessness against fighters, gb's and even destroyer or cruiser. The guns purpose won't be changed ever.
Nevertheless i have to agree that something must be done. The advantage of the gun to LM and missile turrets is the energy efficiency. This advantage it pays with the disadvantage of an only straight fired projectile.
In my opinion the better efficiency cannot compensate the more tactical importance of rotating turrets. I know, thats the reason, why the Lib and Drgon cruiser got better agility, turning and reverse speed for balance.
One point remained unbalanced in my opinion. Lib and Dragoncruiser have the huge gun and 7 - 8 turrets, while most other cruiser have 11 - 12 (Kusari dessi should not be compared to any cruiser because of its size. It can be balanced to other cruiser, but not compared to). So other cruiser can mount a greater variety of turrets.
I don't want anymore turrets on Lib and Dragon cruiser, but this big huge gun should have more damage output (double the damage of LM and missile turrets) and range as it has currently. The better energy efficiency is not enough. Every battleship and carrier captain should be really scared and break into sweat when facing such a cruiser, aware of being destroyed very fast without any support.
In my opinion these cruiser should eat battleships at breakfest, but be cannonfodder to any other shipclasses with minimal closer defensive capabilities against fighters.

AoM
For the record I never said it should be effective against gunboats. A well piloted gunboat (or cruiser even) would still evade 60% of the shots with an increased rate of fire.
However, I suppose doubling its range/damage/Projectile-speed WOULD also be anotehr way to do it. Just as hard to hit with, but it also means it has a chance in a fight as you would rely on it much less other than for an inital closing strike attempt or two, and as you said it would become a major threat to larger ships (or anything caught napping).
How is it too slow? How does it have too short range?
As for the refire, it got changed together with other forward guns, because he previous 1.00 refire or simillar made it rather impossible to fire a shot and then dodge. You had to keep firing to do any damage. Now you can fire do a lot of damage and then dodge to get into new position. So it's actually an advantage. If you want to compare it think about bomber with dual mini vs bomber with SN. Damage per second is actually pretty similar for both, but with minis you have to fire and hit much more, so capships have more opportunities to hit you.
@AoM these cruisers have -40 reverse speed, which makes it for example possible to "outturn" most GBs, simply by reversing. It also makes them perfect for dodging SNs/Mortars and similar.
Last time I saw Leyte.Gulf in a fight he didn't use reverse at all, ever.

For what sake? So you can just sit far away in safety and laugh at people getting wasted?
You know what, why don't you just say
I SUCK IN THE GAME, PLEASE MAKE MY GUNS STRONGER!

The cannon should have a range nerf, actually.
At the range of 3000-3400 meters, battleships are never able to hit the slim, tiny, sort of gunboat sized HULL of LB Cruiser. THE END.
BS defense turrets have a range of 3000 - 3200 meters, but because their speed is only 800m/s, LB Cruiser has no problems dodging all their projectiles either.
The list of advantages just goes on and on.
+ it's fast
+ it's quite nimble
+ because the forward cannon always fires from the middle of the screen, you can actually snipe even smaller targets at range as long as they're not moving or moving slowly
+ good power efficiency
Plus, it's a big gun. Big guns are supposed to have low fire rate but once they fire, they should do a lot of damage.
What you are suggesting would look like an M1A2 tank firing its main cannon like: bang--bang--bang--bang--bang......just ridiculous.
Actualy, the M1A2 DOES fire its main cannon rather fast, if its got a good loader.
And past that, your arguement is discounted because you had to come with a 'you suck' comment to start your post, showing your not serious about discussing anything.

You, sir, are a full of it.
And its amazing how all these people are attacking the poster, rather than provide actual reasons.
And how they ignore that Im not the only cruiser driver complaining about this.
