I didn't know when the update will be out, so I'm a few hours late. Nevertheless, read it. Just to copypaste a bit (go read it, anyway!):

These keys were -NOT- included in this version, because of redundancy, possible confusion, or bugginess:
CAMERA AUTO LEVEL
Toggles camera leveling in 3rd person view. Use with caution.
- NOT available in basic version. Can cause your ship controls to lock up (you won't be able to turn). If you plan to use it, you have to enable it before docking with a base / planet / jump hole / jump gate (not sure about trade lanes). It's enabled by default. Disabling it during a fight allows you to roll your ship in 3rd person (chase camera) mode. Again, it's enabled by default and malfunctions if you don't re-enable it before docking. If you forget about it and your controls are jammed, you will need to use the camera auto level once or twice to un-jam it.
There -might- be (absolutely no guarantee) an optional addon where these key shortcuts/commands are "working" - active, rather. Reason: because if you're not absolutely sure what you're doing, you might get in unnecessary trouble.
In short, the camera auto level feature will not be enabled in the mod by default in its current buggy state.
Mind the newbies, please. They'd assign a key to it, and their controls would keep getting stuck until they restart the game.
Disclaimer: I have a headache. If my responses seem too hot, I have an excuse.
' Wrote:First of all I would like to say that this is a great feature and I am very glad to see it implemented. It adds a lot to the game and I think it may do a fair amount to change gameplay.
May I ask though, why does it only function in first person view. I assume there is a good reason for this and I am wondering what it is. I am also wondering if it can be bypassed so the feature can work in third person view.
On a related not can auto leveling be disabled.
Thanks in advance!
The good reason is that camera auto level is buggy. Igiss didn't approve / decline it yet, but there might be an official addon which enables & makes remappable the camera auto level key, and few others, see this link for full details.
' Wrote:Yes, please, auto-leveling needs to be disabled. I can't count the number of times my tradeship has gotten spun around by NPCs ramming me, shooting missiles, dropping mines, etc. If auto-leveling was turned off, at least I could get control of the ship.
That is completely irrelevant. When you're trying to steer your ship by mouse, you can not roll but also none of the two auto-leveliing features are in effect.
' Wrote:Roll control was definately missing to fly in style and its great its implemented now although I havent checked it yet.
Ok probly Im not first to ask for it and its impossible to implement without htew original sourecode, but, I want a feature that:
-records the usercommands + networkcommands, so it can later be used to render a high resolution perfect framerate video in non-real time to make some very nice videos.
Program it!!!
ps: oh.. and why not make cap ships not turn when they get rammed... you did it with the asteroids... program it!!!
Go program it yourself. I have a headache. Just fyi... I didn't program anything. I just scavenged the binary for command labels, then tested most of them. Oh and stick your triple exclamation marks to Flood, not here.

dev&tester&poster rule no.1: test before you post.
' Wrote:Also I have been told it does not work when you are steering with the mouse...
This seams to severely limit it's usefulness, unless I am mistaken of course.
And I'm telling you it works without bugs in 1st person view, in turret view from that mode, and in rear view from that mode if you don't touch the mouse flight button or left mouse button. You can roll and steer via keyboard (pitch up/down, turn left/right)
It's a bit cool or maybe useful, but it takes a lot of getting used to. Which is fair. What you just got here, is the best that can be done using conventional methods. I don't have time, knowledge or time to acquire knowledge to hack around it and make stuff even better, sorry.
' Wrote:I just found something rather interesting, if you go into first person view, than from there switch to turret, you can still roll. This adds a little to much of an advantage to Cap ships. Say a Rhein Cruiser vs a few bombers, floating wall right? Well, lets say said cruiser can suddenly roll like crazy, switching its huge wall for its much smaller top/bottom, whilst still firing upon you.
Bug? Or just a whole new dynamic to capital ships (A rather helpful one assuming you're on the cap ship side.)
Yeah, this guy figured it out. However, "This adds a little to much of an advantage to Cap ships." - is an utter nonsense. All ships have Z axis turning about the same as X and Y turning. Which means - caps can roll, but they roll like a brick.
So no, the cruiser won't spin like crazy. Test before you post.

The advance control addition missed one of the hidden auto-leveling controls. The Camera Auto-Level which is accessible by going in to

Either manually update that bit yourself or await the auto-update to possibly include that change.
However, this does not fix the issue where you can only roll in keyboard control. Why it doesnt work in Mouse flight i have no idea.
It is possible to tamper with the files yourself, but rather don't, and wait for the official release (it will probably not be done using the auto-updater for reasons I already explained - it's buggy and non-newbie-friendly. And Igiss doesn't want bugs in the mod. Nor do I.)
Rolling doesn't work in mouse flight, I don't know why - as well as you don't.
Actually the camera auto level was added in there, but commented out. It was not in vanilla files, go and check. If you tamper with the files, it's at your own risk.

' Wrote:is that "legal" to do that fix and still play on the server?
Nobody knows. Better not, until and if it gets official.
' Wrote:Um.... seeing as its something that was left out when implementing the roll controls.
Not only that but its a bit impossible to tell if someones using the fix.
For all we know someone could have been using Roll control in 4.84.
It wasn't left out, as I already said above. You are right with the rest, though. You can use the advanced control set on any freelancer server, but beware, it may be considered cheating.
' Wrote:simple.
Originally, one auto level activate the rolling ability, so you could do it, outside 1st person. The second auto level is to deactivate the roll.
No, it's not simple and you're not quite right (as much as I'd like you to be). There is one AUTO LEVEL. This auto level LEVELS YOUR SHIP in both views (cockpit and chasecam). It is not bugged.
The CAMERA AUTO LEVEL operates in 3rd person (chasecam) only. It levels the camera (aligns it with the system plane). Yes, this thing prevents you from performing rolls in chasecam view. But if you disable it, dock, and launch again, you will not like the result.
' Wrote:for autolevelling, you can just go into the settings menu, and assign a key for it
Mine is set to L
No need to change the ini or whatever
Yes. With the auto level off, your ship won't roll back to plane-aligned position as it normally would. Useful when you have a ship that's flat and horizontal and you need to get through vertical asteroids (like Badlands) and vice versa. The auto level has been operating since vanilla.
' Wrote:Well, I did run in to that glitch one time. But only once, and im not exactly sure what caused it outside of mouse flight
As for the two Auto Level switches iv already commented on them.
Theres the Ship Auto Level which keeps the ship level'ed with the plane.
Theres the Camera Auto Level which keeps the camera level'ed with the plane.
----This however, only applies to the chase camera. Which is why sometimes when you turn your ship upside down to the plane and go out of mouse mode, the camera will instantly turn to level, as your ship is still rotating to level out)
Since it only applies to the Chase Camera, thatd be the reason you can roll in Cockpit View without turning it off.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That as i said in the post about the ini edits is the Ship Auto Level, which still prevents you from being able to roll in Chase View (3rd person view, when the camera is behind your ship).
Those INI edits allow you access to enable/disable the Camera Auto Level.
Yes.
"Well, I did run in to that glitch one time. But only once, and im not exactly sure what caused it outside of mouse flight"
Well I'm sure when it occurs and that it cannot be fixed in any simple way I know of. To give you a bit of insight...
During the first stage of preparing the advanced controls, Igiss said that "rolling" - and he meant camera auto-leveling as well - was already included in Discovery once, but was removed again, because it was fubar. And the camera level still is, and gets bugged if you don't handle it properly. Folks who have the know-how can use it to little or no advantage, folks who don't know what it's about had better not touch that command at all because it can get their ship steering stuck.
