Ok, last night, while as a [Phantom] in kusari I had FireBlade try pirating me without ever seeing him.
Even after I explained to him, about who and what the [Phantom]s are, he continued to try.
So this is for all the players who pirate to read, little hints and points to remember so that you, and your targets, can have fun without flaming each other here on the forums or ingame.
if you can't be bothered/don't want to read it, thats up to you.
1) Pirates DO NOT pirate other pirates/terrorists.
2) You can only pirate when you have a Freelancer, Liberty Rogue, Lane Hacker, Outcast, Corsair, Molly, GC, Blood Dragon, Unioner, Brunschuh, LWB, Junker, Farmers Alliance or Hogosha IDs.
(pretty sure thats all the IDs that allow pirating, PM if I missed any)
3) Currently the only terrorist ID is Xeno, on this server 'terrorist' means you can shoot anyone and everyone, as long as you abide by the server rules in doing so.
However, if you don't have a Xeno ID you have to warn, or try to pirate, everyone before you shoot them.
Also, a Xeno ID'd player HAS to try to pirate, or warn, anyone with a Freelancer, Neutral, Zoner or IMG ID, instead of just shooting. This is because of the Xeno NPC faction rep.
4) If a Player has an ID which is listed as hostile to your ID, you'll find the info in the faction infocards, then you can shoot without pirating, however, you still have to warn them first.
eg: A corsair ID'd player comes across a hessian ID'd player, either of you can warn and then engage.
Or
An outcast ID'd player finds a navy ID'd player, again, either may warn and then engage.
5) Until/unless igiss alters any other IDs to be terrorist you still have to warn people before you shoot them.
6) Pirating in anything bigger then a gunboat is against the rules, you'll find it in the ID infocard, Pirating is classed as asking for money or cargo to let a ship go by safely.
So, if you disagree with anything I've posted, say so, but do it politely and state your reasons.
If you think this is complete and utter rubbish and wish to continue shooting everything in sight without having/getting a Xeno ID, then your on the wrong server, go find a PvP one, cos this isn't one.
I think this is complete and utter rubbish and I wish to continue shooting everything in sight without having/getting a Xeno ID!
:lol:just kidding
well, worst thing about warning someone is the time taken to type... gives the 'victim' a lot of time to run/F1 and whatnot. Well, as long as 'Give 2 mil or die' and u start shooting the shields off works...
When we're at it, what/how would the screen taken of someone F1ing on you look like to be found as a valid proof?
If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God? - from 'Nightfall' by I. Asimov The Outcasts consider Siniestre Nube a sacred place for several reasons. Early explorers discovered a jumphole within the depths of the cloud that leads to a strange world of ringed stars and strange craft. All ships in the burrial ground are placed facing that hole to honor the Alien Spirits. - An Outcast rumor

Did FLhook have been disallowed? I mean: when a prey f1ing the ships stay in space for 10 or 20 sec. Thus the pirate has a lot of time to kick down the prey, unless he is sleeping: he can give the prey 4 sec to answer and then fire.
@marauder: thanks! Clearly stated summary. Now nobody should claim ignorance about the server rules. If anybody do not read the forum, his/her fault.

Most ships take more than 10 seconds to kill a Train or CT. Those that don't are largely not allowed to be pirated in.

Hmmm, that one doesn't necessarily have to be true. Pirates may wish to steal from another pirate group, example Corsair from Hessian. Pirates are cut-throats right? They could steal from another hostile pirate group (thief stealing from another thief...meh, why not).

Just type the classical pirate cry.
HALT!
2MILL NOW!
And if you see him charging cruise, or running, or something, you beat the c*** out of him.
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )

Question:
Is cruise disrupting counted as attacking?
If not this would sort the problem. Just cruise disrupt the prey and then demand cargo/cash.
Also, the summary is very good and I'd say this needs stickying! But, I disagree with the notion that the Xeno ID can't attack freelancers with warning. The faction info card says that the Xeno enemies are Everyone, but zoner and IMG. I would class everyone as including freelancers, unless they are tagged Xeno or are green in the HUD.
In the beginning, the universe was created... This was widely seen as a bad move...
Personally, I think the rule about having to announce your intention to rob someone is a lot of crap, but that's just me. The idea that firing a CD at your target and then announce your ransom sounds fair to me. Your intention should be pretty clear after disrupting your targets engines.
As for pirates pirating pirates? Historically, pirates didn't really care for what ship they was pirating, except for the value of the cargo. Now if there would be any privateer-faction out there, let's say they were aligned with Liberty, who'd they target? The answer is simple enough, any ships not under Liberty or allied with Liberty (as long as the target's worth it).
Piracy is a part of the game, I'll live with that..
If a corsair finds goodies they want on a hessian they'll just blow up then hessian to get at them. Especially as both factions hate each other...
As for the warning, a simple 'Die!' or 'Die insertfaction/playername!' works fine.
As far as attacking goes... I'd use the server rule about self-defence, specifically the bit about having to 'drain your targets shield to under half-power or do hull damage' for it to be classed as attacking.
These aren't rules or anything, just pointers of things most of the pirates who don't get flamed on the forums use, quotes from rules etc.
If you don't want to follow them, fine.
As for the xeno's only having to pirate zoners and IMG, I agree, however after getting flamed for blasting everything in sight as a [Phantom], regardless of ID, I figured I'd let people know what I found that works.
I agree with the point though, why players who have freelancer and neutral ID's think that will keep them safe from anyone and everyone is beyond me.
Unless a freelancer or neutral player has some sort of agreement with the xeno ID'd player then they should be fair game.
Also the Xeno ID is the only one that states that you can engage anyone and everyone without warning them first.
The other pirate/terrorist ID's only say that you can pirate with them, not that you can go around blasting everyone in range.
