Anyway, the topic title and description pretty much says it all.
I want to buy a Corvo for it's role-play as a sort of extended field research vessel, however, after flying it, it feels a bit chunky. Especially compared to it's 8 million dollar more expensive counterpart the Zoner Destroyer. (Flying in SP.)
I was just wondering why an exploration ship has less armour, less guns, less cargo, less nanobots and shield batteries and is less maneuverable than the Destroyer? I do not care much about the guns or amour, since I do not intend to be taking on a nomad fleet with it, or much else for that matter, but the 150 less cargo and the slight lagging feeling when I fly it throws me off.
The cargo space is something that doesn't make sense.
The rest can be justified by simply saying that an exploration vessel like that doesn't need to be top notch military grade hardware. All the things apart from cargo space are of great importance in a fight, the explorer need not have them.
Still, a larger cargo space and armour might make sense. Exploration is dangerous after all.
I have one just purely for research and exploration type of RP. Not to mention, when flown well, it can seem to outturn and outperform the Zoner Destroyer. Then again, it's all pilot, and my opponent mustn't have been too good either.
All in all, it's an interesting ship, and looks... Like what a starship should look like.
The Zoner destroyer is not only a warship. I'm not familiar with its current infocard, but the history i gave the ship when i created it, was also a supplyship, to support Zoner bases in very harsh conditions, like FP 11. A supplyship in the hull of a destroyer with good defensive capabilities. Thats why it has better holdsize, than any other cruiser or destroyer.
An exploration vessel has its holdsize filled with sensors, probes, laboratories and fuel tanks for long range exploration tasks. I don't know for which reason an Exploere needs cruiser armament and thick armour. Better would be advanced turning and agility, because Explorers are merely scientific ships. Their best tactic is to avoid troubles and drive circles around or flee, if neccessary.

AoM
Agreed, but it appears to be less agile than the Destroyer. Am I mistaken? (I could be.)
Also, as an explorer, regardless of it's hold being filled with sensors and probes, I would expect it to be on par with the Destroyer at least.
hm - hard to really comment on it - i don t think we spent too much time on that ship - it was a quick replace - mostly model-based. - i didn t even know the stats were altered ( to me it still had the original talarca cruiser stats )
increasing the cargohold appears to be OK. - i suggested it on the dev forum. - since its a bit larger than the fearless - maybe 800 or 850 units might work. - gonne see what the others say about it.
