' Wrote:It's much faster than Chimaera, Werewolf or Greyhound which are not HFs anyway
Exactly. They are not HFs, so dont compare them. And the Gladiator may be slower in -numbers-, but in a proper fight it didnt matter when I was fighting it. I couldnt outturn it, nor he could do.
Quote:Slightly above average in the HF class.
Uh? Gladiator isnt a HF then? It has around 9300 hull or so, too lazy to look at the numbers now.
Quote:I have fought it enough times.. I have seen one dodging 2 Wyrms and 1 Chimaera without getting hull damage and another one dodging 2 Chimaeras, 2 Kusari Bombers and 2 Vipers without getting hull damage.
Without getting -hull- damage. Paladin without a shield is almost dead thanks to its low ("above average") hull. A good use of missiles, mines and mini razors would just kill it.
It can dodge, but just like any other HF. Its uselessness is in its firepower and armor.
Compare it to Gladiator, except the Greyhound, which is HF/VHF mix, its the only HF we often fight. Gladiator is beats Paladin in both stats and fight (if both flown properly).
When fighting BAF in my Chimaera, I find that Templars are much easier to hit than Paladins. I don't know whether that is because of the pilot's skill or the ship itself though.
Also, you said that the Paladin is average in maneuverability, firepower, and armor. So what's the big deal then? Are you saying that it needs to be better in one of these aspects? Why?
I personally don't mind much about the stats. Just, the size isn't originally supposed to be that large. The cockpit was supposed to be comparable to the cavalier one. Right now its a bit bigger.
I just fought Paladin in my Greyhound, a while ago. If it didnt run to Derby, its dead right now.
The pilot was decent. At least he could dodge, but even when hes gone evasive, he wasnt very hard to hit. Fortunately for him, I have no missiles on my Grey eh.
And, I dont mind if its average. Just the fact that we have average HF, and corsairs can haz Gladiator that beats Paladin anytime annoys me.
I wouldnt mind if it stayed the same, if the Gladiator gets nerfed a bit.
This whole thing should be discussed somewhere else though *points at topic name*
EDIT: And again today. BAF/MR event. 3 Paladins and a Templar vs 3 Greyhounds. Guess who won. One Paladin died to a razor, the other ones, unfortunately, ran.
I had no issue with hitting that thing, really. You could say "You were in a Greyhound" but well, they had advantage in numbers, yet they still lost.
Paladin does well against VHFs, which are slower, but against other HFs its hopelessly weak, because it has no advantage. As mentioned above, its either average or worse than average in all stats.
Well, I would like to bring this thread back to life, since there is many people that are disappointed by the Paladin, and want any change that would actually make it useful.
As mentioned before, its roughly the same size as Templar, while being much more fragile. Compared to other HFs, its completely useless. Greyhound is small while having bigger powerplant and 10class slots, Gladiator is quite the same, except it has CD and ordinary powerplant. Paladin is huge, and average in all other stats.
Even properly flown Chimaera, which is a VHF and thus shouldnt be able to effectively keep up with it in a chase, can bring it down even while not jousting. End of the last KNF event shown this well.
I have fought in it and against it many times. I think Im one of the few who still keep it and believe it can get better :D Its usefullness in a group fight ends when it gets targeted, unlike some other HFs which get killed last because it takes some time.
So please, could it finally be at least resized to some reasonable size? Thanks
That Paladin was being pummelled by three Chimeara's at once. It also wasnt strafing enough. Also, we were not neccessarily chasing you. I know that the Chimeara can't keep up in a chase with a Paladin, so I look for other angles of attack. I'm sure other people do the same.
HF's can also not match VHF's if it's being concentrated on. HF's are not meant to go toe to toe with VHF's... much like LF's, except LF's have theoretically infinite survivability (most of them, anyway) whereas HF's sacrifice that for more firepower. For example, I'd expect to be able to take on a Titan in a Hammerhead. I wouldn't expect to take on three Titan's in a Hammerhead though.
I'd say that it was balanced. It may not be the best heavy fighter in the world, but neither is it the worst.
But I would say that, being a KNF and a Corsair.
True, I was lazy to dodge properly, its very late here on the KNF events
Still, if you try some other HF, and then the Paladin, its a huge difference. Many good skilled pilots have died in that thing, just because its huge and made from paper.

Almost no one is flying it, guess why?...
It's in the same boat as most of the LF class (minus Loki), the Centurion and the Hammerhead if only a very small amount of people are flying them.
But from experience, this means that people do not know how to fly them properly in combat, not that they are actually hideously bad ships. Remember, that the HF and LF class are not flexible ships. VHF's are meant to be the mainstay of any fighter-bomber force. LF's and HF's are only meant as agile support, not to take on the slack of any battle.
You were not able to dodge 3 Chimaeras in it (and one of them was McNeo) so it sucks? o.o Then every single ship in this game sucks.
"Almost nobody is flying it". From what I have heard there were 2 just on Saturday. 2 out of 5 (or 6) ships.
"Many skilled pilots have died in that ship". I have died many times in Liberator in 4.84, so it sucked? Don't think so, LF and HF are "made of paper". That's kind of the whole idea.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
Well, I was able to dodge 6 BAF in my Chimera while thrusting from LD-14 to Stokes, then to the Nagasaki. Does that mean that Chimera is too maneuverable? The BAF suck at gunnery? I'm good at dodging?
If you want to seriously call for rebalancing, do some playtesting like what they did in closed beta.
