I am new to discovery; just hit 40 (need a faction too I suppose). I have explored 50 or 60 bases trying to find a decent trade route. With all the new resources and bases in Disco, how are you supposed to remember what is sold where? Right now I just fly around with 1 unit of a few different commodities so I can use the Trade Routes button and see where to buy and sell it. Surely there is a better way than this. Do I just need to make an excel table and keep notes, or is there a way in game?
I would ask the same thing for ships. I saw a nice freighter I wanted to upgrade to, but didnt have the cash. Now I can't remember where it was or what it was called. Anywhere I can find this info in game? I know the wiki has some info, but it seems to be outdated or incorrect ( I spent nearly an hour looking for the Kadesh Freighter which the wiki says is sold in Stuttgart, but never found it, even on non tradelane bases).
In order to locate trade routes ingame, look after places where commodities are sold with a "green" price (there always is a colour next to the price), click the commidity, go to the description window and scroll down.
You will see a list of all bases you ever visited with the character you are using at that moment.
Look at what base buys the commodity for a reasonable price and fly there (with the commodity).
By the way, I do it that way as well, as I'm often too lazy to have a gazillion of programs running and alt-tabbing while playing.
For ship selling locations, you can only use your navigation map, click on a base in question, click on the '?'-button and look what ships it sells, if any. This is only available if you already visited the selected place.
For further intel about ship selling locations, best is to ask around ingame, on the forums or, *sighs* consult certain programs.
Edit: In 4.84, I just used the mod readme to locate ships, but it's outdated in 4.85 and the new readme doesn't contain the ship locations:(
Edit2: Wow, we triple-ninjaed the thread. Didn't see Swift and Sovereign posting...
Your navmap contains a lot of information. You can check any bases you've been to and see what ships they sell, and sometimes it provides a good indication of what they buy and sell. I believe the wiki also tells you where to acquire a fair number of ships, as well as where commodities come from and go to. However, some information may be out of date- the Kadesh Freighter used to be sold on the Battleship outside Planet Stuttgart if memory serves, but I believe it has since been replaced with another ship or moved.
However, a lot of people simply resort to third-party programs to find routes and ships. While this isn't necessary, it certainly makes things faster and more efficient.
If you look for information on trade routes, google Freelancer Companion - a nice piece of program displaying all trade routes from selected planet / base. It also displays information of a ships you can buy at specific locations and equipment.
The FL Companion has another great feature - it displays all the trade routes despite the mod you have currently working. Other words, you can use it on Freelancer as well ( I mean the regular game ) as any other mod.
Kadesh Freighter can be bought at Newark station near Planet Manhattan:). Wiki unfortunately is not up-to-date with 4.85 version of Discovery...
Hope this helps but if you have more questions feel free to PM me.

I am encyclopedia on discovery, I know almost exactly where everything is, Its really odd. I remember things that do not pertain to everday life. If you fly past it enough, you will remember it. FL Datastorm is also very helpful.
Thanks for the info. Now I am torn between finding everything for myself, or getting one of these other programs. Ideal would be a program that knows everything I have discovered for myself in game and then displays it in an organized manner. Seems like these extra programs give you EVERYTHING.
I think I am going to remain without the extra files and just see what I can find on my own. If I get incredibly frustrated then maybe I will cave and try out Companion or something. Hopefully it wont come to that!
I like both. I discover new places, but use those programs to keep track of everything and compare. Do some exploring first, it'll do you good in the long run. Best not to be reliant on programs.
