Problem is that GB turrets have less range than transport ones, Solaris cruiser turrets also and Cruiser primaries don't have much speed or refire. BS solaris don't really have the range either and they would need huge powercore.
Own turret class is a bit problematic since we don't want to use the only class left just for that. Adding special "transport" turret would be possible but with some powerplant changes etc, which won't be happening today.
So with more armor it would have to rely on the escorts to let it survive a bit.
EDIT: Also get some bloody armor..... 300 cargo is certainly not an issue and say cap 4 costs 48 mil which shouldn't be an issue either.

I was actually thinking of simply making another class seven turret--just with the cargo and energy liabilities built in. That way the remaining class is saved. No one is going to mount four guns on their advanced train that take up 2-4k of cargo and require more energy to fire than it has.
Hey--I'm busy trying to rp and steer the barge--that money thing takes time! (though Kusari will be quite lucrative if I survive the trip). I am an army of one! I do have some cap armor to swap over to it--Just have to dock (Oh how I hate docking that ship).

To answer your petulant metagaming question...I am not docking...I am powering down to "silent running". The barge is made for long term deployment to deep space--remember?
I also attempt to leave it on as long as possible so you can look for it--but I can't stay logged on forever.
I am all for increasing its armour significantly, not so much for the shields. Maybe gunboat shields, but I wouldn't give it larger.
I wouldn't also give it significant weaponry. The current weapons fail utterly because of the size, yes. Giving it something that would result in performance similar to the same number of transport turrets on a normal transport would be good.
Cargo cost on guns doesn't mean squat, because they don't take that cargo when mounted. Look at the Heavy CM. It takes 100 cargo - more than what most fighters have, yet it doesn't prevent them from mounting it without losing any cargo space.

The explosion damage can be done.
Edit: There is also a rather large problem of this being the final 4.85 release, so any more changes after what was done already won't come soon, if ever.
