Well I've given myself a day to calm down so I'll try and put this as nicely as possible.
Dab and Nightfall and others of the same ilk: do you keep a count of the number of players you've caused to leave the server, either temporarily or permanently?
I imagine with egos like yours, the number could easily match your postcounts.
I've seen a number of players become discouraged and take breaks, some to never be seen again. They don't necessarily post about it and I wouldn't expect them to. They're not the kind of people who leave goodbye messages. They find they're not having fun anymore and simply don't join the server when gametime rolls around.
You want everyone to follow your RP and gameplay "rules" right?
Tell me, how many new players do you accept into your factions and introduce to roleplay each week?
Now, I will not conform to your rules on how my characters should act. In the same way I don't expect you to conform to mine.
If I have a character in charge of a multimillion credit battleship, he's not going to throw it away needlessly. He'll follow all the rules history has taught about military tactics. He'll fall back and regroup with a stronger force if available, go inside a planetary defensive screen until reinforcements arrive, or whatever it takes to defend his base.
If these actions are considered dishonorable by my faction leader, it's easy enough to kick me out of the faction.
On attack, my characters won't cruise around the system in a petty attempt to annoy the defenders.
They'll execute their attack and then withdraw to a neutral or friendly position once the objectives are complete or they are defeated. It may or may not require the use of cruise to reposition.
If their ship is lost, they'll be out of the fight for a while.
I don't begrudge anyone the use of cruise to regroup or escape...in fact there is only a very small minority of players who don't use cruise.
Remember that in shield running, the shields of both sides regenerate. Nothing wrong with using cruise disruptors in an attempt to prevent escape though, is there?
I wouldn't expect fighters or bombers to behave in the same way when destroyed. They're cheap and easily replaced.
Well, enough ranting, although it needed to be said.
I'll be trying another server until further notice, in the hope of finding more tolerant and fewer PvP focused players.
Well, as I'm sure you little twat are watching this, the ego is RP (on my side at least).
Which one is the one feeding his ego? I'll just use your last post:
Quote:I imagine with egos like yours, the number could easily match your postcounts.
Post count, true, I say myself I spam a lot, a lot of others don't think so, have you seen me flamed for spam or such? Even if I spam, I'm trying to do it in a creative way, not like some others.
Quote:Tell me, how many new players do you accept into your factions and introduce to roleplay each week?
in average? 0 to none. Why? simple, one. I'm showing them the basics out of faction, I spend 100s of milions to get 1 good player a month, I should be happy if I get one of those, the lot of them run-off with the money to appear as a totally non RP char wanting to be the '816 84d455 |337 pwnz0r' in a Rh Bomber or similar others simply disappear into thin air. two. I don't really lead any faction, so it's not only up to me. three. the factions I'm a member of, well, you don't get in those so easily

who died and let you talk about a huge ego? look in the mirror first, judge not, lest ye be judged and all that (r4p. you are the one going against, playing a little rebel that runs at the first sign of trouble, not me.

Really? Why the hell were we chasing you around New Berlin for at least 40mins not so long ago? also, there were a few other times I can remember, no need to waste time and words.
Quote:Remember that in shield running, the shields of both sides regenerate. Nothing wrong with using cruise disruptors in an attempt to prevent escape though, is there?
heh, shields regenerate, yes, but how many times do you hit a fighter/bomber with a battleship and it looses shields and vice versa?

thanx for the info on leaving, you're really pathetic. and you're accusing someone of being PvP oriented? why in the name of Bob do you attack then?

I'm sorry but you seem to misunderstand my approach to RP.
When I refer to PvPers, it's to those who seem to think that as soon as a fight starts, the RP ends.
The constant gassing some are so good at is all very well but it's only a part of RP to me.
You want to have a conversation and then start a PvP fight? Go ahead. Just don't expect me to stop my RP at that point, just because you have some idea that because the fighting has started, the RP has ended.
I enjoy pursuing running ships. There was one occasion where SF made an awesome intercept of a Nomad carrying Frigate. Is that a PvP fight? Not really. The frigate lasted about 10 seconds against 2 BS and a Frigate. It was however very satisfying roleplay.
If they get away, so what? It's all a part of the game, and a part of the RP. A roleplay fight does not require a single ship to be destroyed.
The Berlin incident made me realise that there were a lot of whingers and moaners in the game.
If you want to chase me into Sigma 13, that's your problem, not mine.
Edit: My gripe is that the whinging and moaning is making people leave the server.
Why bother taking new players into your faction, spending time and effort getting them set up, when some comment is just going to make them leave?
The whole situation of BSG using Outcast weapons and Blood Dragon ships has been blown out of proportion.
Got a problem with their RP? Point out what you think is a problem and go back to what you were doing.
It's their business what they do with their RP, not yours.
BSG are pretty heavily restricted on shipchoice as it is.
You don't seem to realise that throughout history, captured machinery and weaponry has been used by the opposing side. Tanks, machine guns, you name it.
There are active black markets on the server. Is that not RP?
Ant, you've shield-run a lot. While there is no server rule against it, it is considered "gentleman's rules" not to do so. While *YOU* might enjoy pursuing, some of us don't, cause we all had enough of that bullcrap coming from CUFF and the Unknowns not so long ago. (CUFF really didn't do it quite as badly as the unknowns.. they simply gangbanged and ran)
As far as Role Play is concerned, everyone has their own opinions. While I agree in principle to Nightfall and Dab... NONE of us have the right to tell others how to role play.
So lets chill out and leave it alone. If they want to outfit their ship for whatever, then so be it. This may be a Role Play server, but if we're gonna start saying "If you're outcast tagged, fly outcast weapons/ships" then I'm gonna say "If you're outcast, stay in outcast controled/spotted areas, and stay out of others"
Last time that happened, It did not go so well did it?

Night, my friend, you're off base on this one. Granted you RP as much or more than anyone around, but;
there is no "Gospel according to Bob". Bob would probably suggest you be innovative, think for yourself, question authority at all times, and take the stick out of yer butt.
Why do you "old-timers" get so damn possessive? Ant is absolutely right. Why would anyone stick around here if they're constantly being told they're doing things wrong?
A little littany..
How many of us leave the Mollys conveniently "green", even if it's against "our RP", just so we can flog BH pilots at top dollar?
How many of us have pumped money into a new char/CSV, nailed the Manhattan depots, then gone shopping for all the "bling" while conveniently still "white" with all the good bling stores?
Guilty! I'm guilty! The CSV with a bullet-proof transport shield is just a big a glitch as any. Yet it's used to get around crap every day.
And yes, Ant.. the whole stink about the BSG's "political correctness" when it comes to ships and weps stinks awfully much like a ploy to get them to leave too.
Hey, no one bitches at me because the ELF are allowed to have whatever damned ID and ship they please. Just because i conjured some smarmy story about "ministering to Flocks", you've given me a pass.
Why is the BSG any different. They're probably responsible for over half the RP on the server at present. I would think with that kind of presence, they'd be encouraged more, instead of hounded and "whinged at" at every turn.
This bloody place has lost all perspective. I suggest we all take a look at our own behaviors before pointing any more crooked fingers.
Um, I'm a noob at this game (1 crapola Bret ship, level 25 and counting), granted, but that gives me some perspective with the way people play here. Seems to me about a dozen (or so) people play the mod game to the nth (mega-maximum) degree while the rest just are happy pottering about doing Freelancer-ish things.
Me, I'm just trying to scrape together a half million to buy a more-reasonable heavy fighter than I have, never mind owning half a dozen different BSs and Nomad-Shadow (hmmm.... nice idea) hybrid fighters outfitted with 12 Mystic Death Cannons of Doom and being Deputy Sponge Lifter Assassin General for the Great Ewok people faction of the Thingy System. :)Hell, I don't understand half the TLR (three letter acronyms) you guys are using... but this message goes out to certain people who really need to get a life outside of this game - seriously... lighten up guys!
A few comments about honour: we aren't all suicidal Klingons with strange honour-guilt complexes that would give Freud a headache. Those who wish to win fights (and I am assuming that if one gets into a fight, one's intentions are to win or, at least, survive) must embrace all possible avenues of doing so. Any tactic is valid when both sides can use it, surely - or the game mechanics themselves are f-fruitcaked. ie, shield running seems a valid thing to do as the game rules allow it and anyone can do it. While your Evil Foe is running for a dock, why not brew some calming herbal tea? Disenguage and call it a draw? Challenge said Evil Foe to an areana style battle (some System or other is set up for that, right?). ;)
[whoops, call to end thread made before I finished writing this - yeah, end this sillyness now! Try going out and meeting girls.... Ahem, sorry - Red Dwarf influences showing there. ;-) ]
OK, both, Mal and Ant (you both understood me wrong but nevermind), I'm definitely not in a mood for flaming. I'll just say that neither of you will like ME 'equipping to win' and chasing you around the server.
There's no point anyway, what if I don't say anything and leave it all as the two of you suggest actually? I'm glad if some powergamers/cheaters/modders and such went away because of me. But I doubt that's a fact.
Also, Mal, 'Bob' was just a name I used... a certain entity by the name of (why not?) Bob that doesn't give a rats a$$ about what we are debating here.

I heard SF| is gonna use one of them involnerable shields around planet Manhattan to keep the hole in the ozon layer from getting bigger.
For the rest; you big guys do what you want, fight yer little arguements out in space or on this here word-prison.. while happy little wee-guys like myself fly and explore free 'n without a hassle.
Ergo:
There's life in Ye other Reich (the Traveler- John Twelvehawks) , where ego don't count so much ;)

Someone give him a clue, I'm sure as hell not gonna. I've had a bad day, and not gonna explain stuff to noobs. (I also know i was one of those newbs 6 months ago, I'm just tired.)
I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
