The physically incapable (bad back/joints, bad asthma) or those without anywhere nearby to play it (esp. living in a large city) perhaps? Personally, I think it's better than just sitting on your ass watching it, if only slightly.
I agree about it being basically the same game year after year, but... how many changes can you make to soccer, golf, baseball, or whatever other sports? The rules tend to be pretty static, after all.
(not that I'm defending them; I have other issues with them. The ridiculous control setup in the newer Tiger Woods games has led me to enjoy Mario Golf more...)
Empire Earth II and III. Original was epic, these were letdowns.
The ultimate failure, though? World of Warcraft. Piggybacked on the reputation of Frozen Throne, then violated its storyline and left it screaming in a ditch.
It's not out yet but it's Star Wars: The Old Republic. Supposedly they arn't making a KotOR 3 (who knows) but if they arn't than The Old Republic game is pretty much it's sequel and its online and messes the whole KotOR series. But thats just my opinion
' Wrote:Has to be Oblivion. It certainly wasnt the 'worst' game ever, but was the biggest disappointment. I expected far more considering both the length of time we had to wait and the original massive scope and content of morrowind.
Agreed. 100%.
Oblivion just seemed so.. Dull. And for how pretty they tried to make it, even THAT was dull. I got bored of staring at the same bunch of bushes during the first five minutes of the game.
Morrowind pulled me in and didn't let go. I enjoyed exploring every bloody inch of that island (And even off the island, although there's only so far you can swim...)
' Wrote:Final Fantasy 8 - While the appeal of most of the series has dropped off (I really only like FFIII, FFV, FFT, and FFTA2 now), I enjoyed the card game in FF8 more than the main game. That should tell you something.
I LOVED 8. It was such an amazing game. I loved the first six games (Yes, I played 2 and 3 on a rom, roughly translated. I now own FF2 for PSP.) 7 didn't catch me all too well... It just bored me so much. Good game, but.. Meh. FF7: Crisis Core caught my attention. I loved every minute of it.
FF: Tactics still remains my all time favorite FF.

Imo the entire EA Sports line of games are awful, they are the most pathetic money-making tool ever invented (i am shocked micro$oft didnt think of it first!), as who in their right mind would want to play football (soccer for you americans) on a screen when you can just go outside and do it?! Also, there is so little to them, it is amasing they are even sold as individual games, rather than just release one and make the rest downloadable upgrades, this = people spending money on games that are almost exactly the same as one they already own!

This I completely disagree with. I think EA has done a fantastic job with ALL of their sports titles (NHL, Madden, Tiger Woods, FIFA) They're all amazing. Sure, you can go outside to play, but the amount of time you need to invest into playing a sport? Getting people all together? Making time for an actual game? Not a lot of people can do that. Some sports are also incredibly expensive (Hockey gear, football gear, golf gear). And then there's the whole thing with the seasons... Well how are you gonna go out and play soccer when the grounds covered in snow? Sometimes it's just more fun to sit down on your couch, fire up a game of NHL with your buddies, and face your favorite teams off against eachother.
As for my personal worst game ever? Hmm... I'm gonna go with Dues Ex: Invisible War. That was a horrid piece of garbage. We went from the amazing gameplay and storytelling of Deus Ex to... To IW? Load times were horrendous, even on PC you could tell it was made for the console. The gameplay was stale.. They changed what was great about Deus Ex and I'm still not sure why... And even the storyline was lackluster. I'm hoping that the third isn't a letdown, or I will cry.
Its really odd about this game, I read in several gaming magazines(These were the real deal PC Magazines not just some new company) and apparantly this game was filled with these amazing graphics, and was going to be a supreme RTS. When I bought the game it turned out that the graphics were nothing like the ones shown in the magazine even when turned up high and the game lacked any kind of tactical edge. It was a "Build unit, send it, attack something, it died, build 4000 of these units, send it, yay I won cause I can spam a button". Not to mention it had a horrible resource system..Roughly 6 different resources (gold, wood, stone, food etc). Way to much management was needed.
' Wrote:Half life 2. Actually most games that came out after 1998 were/are bad.
I'm amazed that somebody else agrees with me...I liked the first twenty minutes, but when I realized that it had taken me eight hours to get through that damn canal system I sort of screamed a little inside.

Oblivion... was actually one of my favorite games. I started playing Thanksgiving last year, and I'm still playing. It's going for the record breaker: FL Discovery (a little less than a year). But, whatever, everyone has their own opinion.
(I was reading a game magazine and "Mother Teresa Feeds the Starving Children" got a -10.)
Crysis. All about graphics, nothing more. They didn't even make an effort the prevent cheating, everybody runs around with guns that can shoot through walls. At least, that's how it was last summer, I haven't touched it since then.

My main problem with Oblivion is the lack of Vaults to break into and make yourself rich/fully equip yourself. Really, is everyone in Cyrodil that damned poor?
Oh, and the fact that when you go outside even higher-end computers can struggle, but in a town or dungeon lower-end computers can run with full settings. That's a bit of an oddity.
