I used to be a real fan of the games when I was younger...and I guess I still like them (hey, they *are* quite addictive;)). When I finally get through Platinum, I might give HeartGold and SoulSilver (horrible names, but hey) a try as well.
Also , I am an assumed poke-nerd. Pokemon Blue was the very first game on the very first console I had. Pokemon Gold was just epicsauce. Too bad you couldnt trade pokemons from the GBA games to the old GB ones... Oh well.
A remake of Gold will probably be epic. But if they dont put the golden gyarados in there, ima go kill someone >_>

In my limited experience with LeafGreen, every detail down to many of the hidden items and TM locations was like the original - they even replaced TMs with equivalent ones where the old TM no longer existed, such as putting a TM for Bullet Seed (relatively weak Grass attack) where hte TM for Water Gun (relatively weak Water attack) used to be.
Considering that they did that, I would say that the Red Gyarados - which was a minor plot element - is perfectly safe.
Meh, I always liked Charizard. The games are much better than the cards. The normal rules suck, and their always releasing new cards that are better than the old ones.
