Could the ships themselves not be given out by admins, like terrorist IDs? If they were purely for RP purposes and to add some atmoshpere to places then you could ramp the stats such that they cant be killed , and take away the guns. That way they could just fly about, being creepy and atmospheric and people could go look at them but not be killed by them. If people can RP it well enough and they cant be used for combat, itd add an extra something to the game.

But, itd be a lot of work for people for what would be a real niche market for the ships. If they were made see though or with holes and bits missing, i doubt that many people would take one. In the same way that its rare to see people RPing a cruise liner, carrying passengers around and doing tours, i think this would go the same way.

I don't really think ghosts should be allowed. Freelancer is all about mechanics. The supernatural should not be in a sci-fi space second person shooter. How would the ghost control anything? "mystic powers"? You are starting to remind me of lily.flamethrower... ph34r t3h 3v1l!!!

Come on! Be free!

Zach has at least one ghost.

Gronath has a ghost.

The LPI has a ghost.

...That's all the ghosts I know.

Ghosts do not exist in FL. Anybody attempting to RP something supernatural without any very good reason (Nomads - telepathy etc) will either by shunned or just ignored by the majority of the player base on this server. And I actually think this is a good thing. The last thing we need is werewolves and vampires taking the place of Corsairs and Outcasts...

I think a small dose of well RP'ed inexplicable scariness is good.
Ever since mankind has ventured into environments such as the sea or the sky there have been inexplicable happenings.... why not in space?

No I don't think we should go all ghost-busters or have vampires and such....
*imagines the Order flying to the theme-song of Ghost Busters....*

But legends and scary stories add to the complexity and depth of the Freelancer universe.
Why does it even have to be supernatural? theres plenty of fringe-science possible explanations for ghosts. especially in a sci fi universe. (go watch a few of the wierder Star Trek's if you want inspiration.;))
As long as the people RP-ing the 'ghosts' don't try too hard to explain it, and as long as too many don't show up too often (a ghoul in every nebula) I think its rather cool :)

Thing is... if you blow away a part from a cap ship it will explode no matter what you do. Not useable.

In a brilliant tactical movement, i charged backwards.

Actually, I've had an idea for this kind of thing. Certain objects - engines and powercores, I think - are invisible to players, but can actually be edited by Admins, if memory serves. These things generate the engine effects and such. Now, if we made a special type of engine that could be added to a ship in place of its normal engine, it could be made to function like a ghost ship, giving it some kind of screechy engine effect like a TIE fighter or something and making the windows glow red and it spew fancy smoke trails or something like that.
