"It still looks the same." Lieutenant Zane had returned to Toledo with three others for some well deserved relaxation time.
The campaign in the Omega's ended up transforming into a reconnaissance incursion into Bretonia. Which meant it took almost thrice as long as was planned. The Maahes was still in Delta, stationed there because of an increase in nomad activity.
He went to the bar, got a drink, noticed some people of note in the bar, then took a table all to himself.
He wondered whether he would run into Lyle again as he drained his glass.
"I would have to say no, there would be to many over confident pilots getting shot up and killed due to there under equipped and lack of skill, The corsairs can deal with it because they grew up to be fighters and the order recruits only the best of selected pilots and then trains them to be at there best, me myself i would class as a born fighter even though i was brought up in a civilized community. We have had over confident pilots come out here before and we end up having to save them from there own doing."
"And we will always be fighting amongst our selves because for some its there nature to wont more then they have. more money more land more space and more power. but there is a few people who see more point in helping each other grow and survive rather then fighting with each other."
"I dislike wars quite a lot and i even have a quote marked on my ship "In the end we will not remember the words of our enemies but the silence of our friends" those words mean more to me then anything because that is all i remember of my dead friends and family."
Freisener first gestured to Lt zane to see if he would join as well.
"You are right of course, but i believe if we humans find out theres a much bigger threat to our power mongering and greedy selves than the usual, I believe they could be united."
"Look, I do not like killing other people, never did. Thoughts always rush into my head along the lines of did he deserve it? Was he truly ill disposed towards us or just following the orders of some jerk who thinks hes a big jackass? Killing is a necessity here, But I prefer to kill jellies, they are much easier for my conscience"
He looked at Zane and gave a single nod to give respect as he could tell he didn't like the topic, what Christopher liked to do was work out there personality's and would often gets feelings about good and bad people.
as Christopher took a sip from his non-alcoholic drink he eased in his seat to relax something he hadn't of done in a long time
"Any of you got family back home?" after saying this Christopher started to stare at the table then he snapped back to reality
"I had family and a wife, they probably thought I was dead way back in 797 A.S. It is not a nice feeling knowing that other people think you dont exist anymore"
it was a while after Christopher had asked the question before he spoke again
"I might have one relative still alive they lived in outskirts of liberty but i fear to see them, other then that I have nothing left to turn back to." Christopher dropped his gaze for a while before he spoke "how about you Zane, have you got any light at the end of the tunnel?"
"We are shadows gentlemen, we do not exist." Zane reminisced as he echoed the words of his original commanding officer.
"Everyone has family, most of mine are even less of a shadow than me." He thought about how his father and brother had died fighting against the infected Rheinland as it invaded Liberty and wondered where his mother was. His fiancee at the time of his defection to The Order had moved on and from basic intelligence gathering Zane had heard she was married and expecting a child.
"There is no light at the end of the tunnel for us. We're losing this war. Recruits have dried up and people we send into the field are not coming back." Zane growled and then drained his drink once more.
"Time to wallow." He got up and headed to the bar to re-fill his glasses.
Christopher rose his head out of the shadow of his cloak "There is always a light and the end of the tunnel, you have just got to find it, And we might not exist but the reason i am still fighting is because i have something left to fight for, some say they fight for humanity but what they are really doing is protecting the ones they love, and you have to admit the rest of "Humanity" has turned there back on us. My light at the end of the tunnel is for my last family member to stay alive and i would risk every thing i have to protect them." Christopher head sank back into the shadow of his hood
