The amazing things you think of tossing and turning at 4:00 am...

Anyways.

I figured that Ageira corporation is a bit too powerful in Discovery. Why? They built the entire trade lane system in all of Sirius, except for Gallia. Its been RP'd a thousand times that they could track ships through the lanes. Wouldn't that mean that the Liberty Navy gets a nice warning when Ageira starts to see a bunch of green (Rheindland) blips heading their way? Couldn't they sell their "services" to other Houses?

This all comes from using the same type of Jump gates/Trade lanes throughout Sirius, which I know has been discussed in another topic here.

Just a thought.

they dont control the lanes. they keep the lanes running, but the goverments are the ones who own the lanes.
and it is possible to confuse the scanners mounted on the lanes. make them think that your nice green cruiser is a zoner trading ship.

Clientele information is confidential, even during a war.

The Tradelane/Jumpgate system acts as a futuristic internet of sorts, connecting people across Sirius. I'm assuming that even if Ageira is monitoring the tradelanes, that Rhienland can at least mask their signals. Perhaps more.

"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."

Well, the Lane Hackers could start making terrorist attacks on trade lanes and jump gate. And paralely, they could set a new coorporation to dethrone Ageira.

That's an excellent way of thinking of it.

I'm totally going to roleplay a Lane Hacker playing an MMORPG on a tradelane now.

I think there is no danger of corps being too powerful at the moment.

I didn't mean powerful as in military arms. It was a poor choice of words. Rather, the power to track ships

Don't worry about it.
It's limited by Game mechanics.
Yes they would be able to but why bother worrying about it
(to the point of sleep-deprivation) when there's nothing you can do about it?

On the other hand it's a perfect Roleplaye reason for the Online players stats websiite.
Only usable by Ageria monitor players of course.

Food for thought:

Who says Ageira is taking sides in the war? The Rheinland government buys tradelanes from them as well as Liberty.

Keep in mind that enormous multinational companies not only survive the defeat of their parent nation, but often benefit from it by taking contracts to aid in the rebuilding. Profiteering usually takes precedence over patriotism.
