The Gestapo (contraction of Geheime Staatspolizei: "Secret State Police") was the official secret police of Nazi Germany. Under the overall administration of the Schutzstaffel (SS), it was administered by the Reichssicherheitshauptamt (RSHA) ("Reich Main Security Office") and was considered a sister organization of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) ("security service") and also a suboffice of the Sicherheitspolizei (SIPO) ("security police").
As part of the deal in which Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany, Hermann G?ring was named as Interior Minister of Prussia. This gave him command of the largest police force in Germany. Soon afterward, G?ring detached the political and intelligence departments from the police and filled their ranks with Nazis.
Gestapo=Nazi. Had to be a dues paying member of the Nazi to be in the Gestapo.

@ Hack: Ahem ... yeah ... read that ... AFTER I used the term. Was not aware the Gestapo were Nazis at the time. So forgive my ignorance on that one. But as you mentioned ... they are "secret state police" ... and MY POINT is that this entire "nitpick" is derived from someone that doesn't like the way other people are treating him online. TOUGH!!! Just because you're a cop doesn't mean people are gonna treat you with respect. Give up the "forced" smiley-face-at-the-cop routine. Where is it written that lawfuls gotta like the cops?
@Baltar: I shall now repost my previous post which you apparently did not read.
"Hawkwings Wrote:My problem is not with the people that RP being angry at the police or whatnot. My problem is twofold:
1. People who go "lolz police corrupt" which is the extent of their RP.
2. EVERYONE antagonizes the police/lawfuls. OK, fine, I get that some people are bound to have a grudge, but really people, do you have to be all "Ima tuff guy! RAR!!" and wave your e-peen around in system chat?
Or the other common one, "I'm so dark and gritty and I speak in a gravelly voice that must have come from smoking 3 packs a day and I'm a bitter grizzled old war vet who's seen too much death in my life but I keep going cause that's my duty but I really have a soft heart and I'm just looking for someone to love and oh yeah I'm 17 and an admiral and my war medals weigh more than I do."

Congratulations, you just got your head bashed in with a nightstick and five-to-ten in prison. Yes things in space are a bit different than here in the real world, but here on earth you wouldn't think of insulting a police officer to his face. Or flashing your headlights and flooring it.
I dunno, it's just something that bothers me.
Cops aren't incompetent fools (most of the time). They belong to a highly-organized police force that has the man-power to respond to most pirate threats with overwhelming force. So, might wanna show a modicum of respect. I dunno. Always blows me away how the pirates call us 'pathetic' and whatnot.
disagree. here's why.
I am armed and shielded if i am a punk im gonna insult an officer
space police would have trouble physically bashing you
thanks to system-wide communication, we can insult em anywhere.

Hawkwings ... was I speaking to you or even responding to your post? No ... I was talking to Hack. Yes I read your post ... does that mean I have to address your comments? Don't freaking scold me for not agreeing or disagreeing with you. If and when I EVER respond to your post, THEN you can get on my case about not reading it if that's your interpretation. GEEZ man. And I don't see how your post has to do with what I said to Hack.
Apologies, Baltar, but Hawkings raises a fine point that really shouldn't be ignored. It is more than relevant to the conversation, and is in fact that root of what we're trying to address.
The problem isn't that some people are rude to the police, but that almost everyone is rude to the police. Really, most people shouldn't be. At least where I live most people aren't. I shouldn't get into an argument by simply saying "Hello, NAME, you're all clean by my scanners. I hope your stay in Bretonia is friendly." That is the kind of thing I think we're addressing.
Really, it roots from a different problem. There are too many wolves and not enough sheep on the server, to put it bluntly. Not everyone has an extensive backstory. Some of us are just shippers who act like it. Really, I'd like to see more normal people and less veterans. I know it's boring since you can easily be a normal person in real life, but, hey, you can't be a normal person in space. ;)
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.

He may have a point ... but he needs to at least give me the courtesy of a reply to him before he goes jumping on my case claiming I haven't read his post. Just because I don't respond to him doesn't mean I haven't read his post. And the majority of my discussion in this thread has been with Hack. He had no business jumping on me like that.
My complaint to Hawkings is not WHAT he said ... but rather the WAY he jumped into the discussion. Don't go saying "you obviously haven't read my post" when neither of us have spoken to one another. His post was not specifically directed to me ... was it? How did I know he was speaking specifically to me? There's no "@ Baltar" in front of his post ... so don't go assuming I knew you were speaking to me and expected a response. Next time ... make it clear you're talking to me and not the general public.
The only thing that gets on my nerves, is some screaming and whining afterwards.
"What did I do? You cant kill me / throw me out!
This house totaly sucks!"
If you choose to be unfriendly or disrespective expect a cell or a fresh breeze of space in your face.
Gettin thrown out is the best thing that can happen. At least you are alive and enjoying freedom.
So stop the pondering when you get beaten up by a cop or a military pilot.:nono:
In a public forum, on a discussion that people are actively discussing, I assume everyone posting has read every post. Tell me, is that an unreasonable assumption?
