Its Time for 'Verginix's Stupidly Simple Pictoral Diagramss!'
I explain to woobbly why a luxury Liner with 2600 Cargo space does not get battleship weapons.
Lets say The Blue Blob is a BAttleship and the Red one is a Liner.
The Filled in Space on both of the ships show the parts of the ship that are devoted to weapons, generators, powerlines, sheilds etc.
The Clear part shos the space deovted to cargo, and making the crew feel comfortable.
A liner May be the same size as a battleship, but its POWER SYSTEMS, it WEAPON STRENGTH, and its SHEILD strengh are ALL comprimised to make the passengers feel good.

Diablo: Aye, thats why the Lux Liner still has the thin little red line around it. It needs to be able to protecxt it self,. but it WOULD NOT be able to suppoer any type of guns larget then a gunboat.
Right now I believe only gunboats and lower. I believe what Wobbly is talking about is a transport that CAN be pirated by larger things such as battleships and such. I think it would be rather interesting to be able to pirate someone with a battleship... you know untill you realise it's overkill. I don't know. If something really needs that protection, transport it with a battleship or get a escourt.
Aye, I have seen the power of a Fighter with an Inferno against a GB hull. A certain weapon combo is utterly deadly against it on a fighter, But I wont tell. I think we should stick with GB and lower only for pirating Liners for now.

Well, your blue and red blob were certainly scientific:P
Power systems would likely be the same as a battleships, supporting passengers takes a lot of power.
Weapon strength would be the same as a battleship, liner turrets are cap ship turrets, the liner has the size to support BS turrets.
Shields likewise would be the same as a BS, shield strength is related to size.
The main difference is armor, in unmodded FL the liner has a lot less armor than a BS, and that armor takes significant strength.
The liner should reflect what it is in original FL, where it is a cross between a cruiser and BS in power.
The only difference of note between a liberty BS turret and a liner turret in stock FL was that the BS turret did more damage (roughly 80 vs 60 per shot), everything else was pretty much identical.
In stock freelancer, the liner is given cruiser handling with BS hit points.
As far as power, stock FL gives the cap ships (including the liner) infinite power, so no help is given there.
If we take unmodded freelancer as a baseline, the liner is not a gunboat, it is a cap ship that is a cruiser in power, more or less. Something like another civilian cap ship, the albatross, is like in discovery.
