i've had instances where my mouse and keyboard just simply stop working. usually caused by a dormant program somewhere in the background that got activated or whatever.
If this happens again, try ALT+TAB.. if it works. If not, hit the numberlock key and see if the number lock indicator comes on.
Does this happen in any other games anyway ?

I tried. I did just that, but the keyboard behaved like disconnected from the pc (the first thing i did was to check the KB cable)..
In fact it was a strange problem:
The keyboard stopped responding as if it were disconected, and the mouse buttons did not work, but i still could control the ship direction via the mouse...
I tought it was some program that blocked the input, but i scanned the system and found nothing. I think it was an error at driver level...

(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )

would you mind if i praised You & another guy for the sp bit, and sent it to lancers reactor?
2.have you thought about puting a special flds warning in with the mod, i can send you the 1 i made.
3.i think i can make some special icons for prisoners/vip's/pirets/goverment piolets. are you intrested?

Yes send it. Though I will make 4.78 sp myself, with XML startup options and other cool stuff. Already working on it, but since I've got much to do with the mod itself 4.78SP will be released after the mod itself.
