while that is a good job right there, make sure you test the hitbox 100%
1. use missiles all over the model to make sure that missiles dont pass through the model
2. using a justice mk 1, get someone else to park themselves in a mako shieldless while you run over the entire model with the justice mk 1 as a tracer, and make sure no shots pass through
3. fly into the model, from every angle, make sure that your ship rebounds from the mako, where the hitbox should be, instead of allowing you to fly inside the model. (collision detection)
4. fire at the local npcs, they can sometimes help with testing what with the ramming, missile spamming cap + normal patrols, etc.
excellent work - when it works, you ll receive a free beer ( if you re off age ) and the gratitude of some BHGs. do not forget to submit it when you tested it.....
oh - a warning !... if it works well.... you ll be asked to so other hitboxes, too:laugh:

Thats what the "Regression testing in progress right now" means. I'm identifying eventual flaws, so I can tweak the hitbox, if necessary, this weekend when I have more than the 3 hours I spent on making the sur file yesterday evening.
Currently there is a small flaw in the aft section, where the "extruding pin" of the engine assembly is - If you fire on the Mako from a specific high aspect angle on the stern, the shot wil pass through the engine assembly and first register when it hits the hull from the inside. So I allready know I'll need to redo the aft circular section. Also, I am going to see if I can reduce the number of faces used, since I think the 700+ I needed on this attempt is a bit high, and might affect framerates.
Remember, it's been 5 years at least, since I last touched MilkShape 3d, so those 3 hours was mainly used in assembling the tools, and getting to grip with the new functionality in them. Fortunately I found all my old notes from the editing and tweaking of the Boston Supermod, and the principles learned then in hitbox fixing, still applies.
So for a first effort, I think its pretty damn good, and it just reinforces my previous impression of the "jumping over where the fence is lowest" opinion I've expressed in another thread. Since I got called on that opinion, and people took it personal instead of understanding it the right way : "A bad hitbox is worse than bad balancing stats, since the hitbox WILL be a balancing factor", I just decided to "put my money where my mouth is", so to speak.

It looks like good work, but be prepared for the possibility that correcting one bug may lead to another. You seem intelligent enough to already knwo that though.
What is your process for constructing, do you avoid any particular style of mesh creation? Having been one of the only ones able to make a working hitbox with a high(er) success rate for awhile leaves me curious about other's styles.

Of age... Bahhh humbug - I've been drinking beer legally for the last 30 years, and illegally for a couple of years before that. Just ask the barkeep at Dabadoru station, since he's been hearing my complaints about that lousy Liberty Ale he insist on importing to the station and selling at a premium price.
He consistently fails to understand that drinking Liberty Ale, is like taking your kusarian misstress out in a canoe on the lake at Planet Erie to engage in male/female relations : F'rackin' close to water !!!!
As for adjusting the positions of the shield emitters on other ships - Understand this : I'm a fiercely loyal card carrying member of the Bounty Hunters Guild Core - This is Guild technology.
If the Guildmasters decide to sell such technology for a hefty addition to the coffers of the Guild Bank, say 100 Million cr's pr shiptype, I might spend some more time at Alabama shipyards. Otherwise I don't see it happening. Afterall, we in the Guild work for money, not for benevolent purposes.
