Merc Bounty Hunter questions

Its my intention to make a Mercenary character who goes around collecting on bounties. I am going to use the Merc ID since it lets me carry out non-lawful contracts too but im unsure whether to use the Freelancer IFF or Bounty Hunter IFF.
I would use the Bounty Hunter IFF as that's what i plan to do and friends and enemies are defined by the ID not the IFF but there doesnt seem to be a consensus from people i've asked.

I also plan to use an Orca Bounty Hunter gunboat, its green on the tech chart but i hear BHG are clamping down on people using their ships.

Any thoughts on which ID/IFF combo i should use and am i OK to use the Orca?

rather quite simple - if limited, too...

if you use a bounty hunter ship, you should also use a bounty hunter ID and IFF. - their ships are as restricted to the faction as are many other factions ships.

if you re a generic mercenary - you can fly with either no IFF at all ... or a freelancer IFF. both provides more neutrality towards lawful / unlawful contracts.

if you want to fly a gunboat, - you are bound to either take sides ( if you re lawful, you can surely ask one of the militaries to give you one ) or you go unlawful and get a rogue or other gunboat. - but that will label you as either tending to the lawful or unlawful side.

to be mostly generic, you can use the kusari explorer ( i think its still rather generic ) or the conference gunboat ( but that only if you don t take contracts against zoners - as your ship would be repossessed quicker than you can utter "unfair" by the ZRT if we see it used against zoners )

The BHG dont own the Bounty Hunter shipline.

so long as your ID and the tech chart says you can use it them go ahead.

Dont expect the Outcasts/Corsairs or any other Pirate faction to allow you to land on their bases with a BH Ship though.

As for alternatives...the Kusari Explorer and the Zoner GB could work, though I've heard that the Zoner GB is rather bad for PvP (hey, it's a Zoner ship - it should) and I've never seen a Merc Kusari Explorer either. The IMG Gunboat might be a good choice however, that is, if the IMG is willing to sell them. I've heard it's quite decent at combat, and it probably wouldn't raise eyebrows when you start killing Bounty Hunters in one of them either (seeing you being an unlawful merc).

I've seen many one IMG GunBoat with a merc ID. So, i think it's ok to use that ship:)

Well, I've also seen this:P. Just because many people are doing something doesn't mean it's OK. I assume it's completely alright, but still, I'd ask first, and be it just for the sake of being polite.

Yes, yes we do.

That's why the ONLY place that you get anything larger than a bomber is specifically in our Guard system. And if you come into our Guard system and you don't have a Bounty Hunter ID - even if you've managed to get your own reputation friendly enough with hunters that you can get in there, you can (and probably will be) attacked and possibly destroyed for going in there.
