I've had a quick look around on this site and it seems to have links to most of the MMORPG games out there and not just the 3D ones either.
Word to the wise: some of the "Free to play" games out there, while they are indeed free to play, require you to BUY some form of in game item that gives you access to the "good" equipment, so that while you don't *have* to buy the items, you may not be able to be competetive (against other players) without doing so.
As for Guild Wars, I have all three games (the first one and the extras).
There isn't a LOT of grind, but it is there, the lvl cap is low (20), you can do most things solo, except for the really big fights and the scenery is great, animation is not too horrible and toons are drawn rather nicely.
GW also seems to have several 'background' stories happening during the main story and there are some seriously LOL moments along with a few WT? ones.
WoW on the other hand, has lots of grind, (grind, grind lots of GRIND), but on the plus side there are *so* many things to do besides just going and killing stuff.
You can learn to cook. That's right, I said COOK as in get a bunch of food type stuff, fling it together and make food that heals you.
You can learn to fish and then cook the fish.
There are a lot of things, here is a list from memory;
Skin (animals for leather)
Mine (different ores)
Blacksmith (make your own armour/weapons)
Herb (pick herbs, make medicines etc)
Think of something you can probably learn it.
The only major drawback is that WoW is pay to play and while I'm not crazy about the idea, I STILL got hooked on WoW for a while there.
Quote:Combat Arms is cool, but the makers of it have a few other FREE online games as well.
Give it a look , http://www.nexon.net/
Is that a joke? there is no RP there just hackers, believe me I know my Kill to death count is now down to .90 makes me mad.
Edit: context read zigeris duh! now apologize for that noob comment! *sigh* SOrry...misread what you mean by posting...CA in regards to MMORPG's.
Stronghold Firefly studios is making a MMORPG I personally if I like it enough will reduce drastically my time here for that game. Given that it remands labeled as Free. Reason because I am uber fan of the Stronghold series. Hmm I think i could actually balance the time and just get rid of Combat Arms which make me say naughty words.
Dungeons and Dragons Online. It's free to play now, and it's damn fun. Unlike any other mmorpg I've played. Barely any grinding at all, you run through dungeons to level, and it's really fun in big parties on the hardest difficulty, even when your party bombs and gets wiped out three times in one dungeon xD
I used to play Regnum Online. It was pretty fun, free to play if you don't want premium items, and it's constantly updating and improving. There are basically three realms at war and center ground between them, with castles in the middle.
Unfortunately, the music is much less than pleasant.
