I am in agreement with you on this one. It seems HF is used for the weaker VHF ships instead of being a different class.
Crow - great turning, strange firing arcs, extremely crappy hitbox (new one is already made)
Hammerhead - good
Taiidan HF - best HF now, a bit bad hitbox though
That is all, not counting under level HFs.
Marauder, Blood Dragon and Greyhound are VHFs in my eyes.
EDIT: Forgot Kiith HF, that's VHF in stats as well.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.

No, it doesn't. Trust me. It isn't overpowered considering it is only useful against fighters and can't even scratch capships. If something should be done, it's improvin other light fighters. Liberator works as it should.
I can only think of two LF's that really need to be improved at the moment.
First is Hyena, which needs to be improved somehow, anyhow.
And the other one is Decurion, which needs an agility buff to some standard LF agility.
Right now it's slower then a bloody Sabre.
As for the HF's, not counting ones who need better hitbox, only Centurion needs an upgrade.
It's slower then a Sabre (am I repeating myself?:D) and it's a HF.
It needs turning rate upped to some 1.25 at least, and a bit of agility boost.

You forgot TEH PHANTOM!!! It's slower than some Heavy fighters (am I repeating myself?:D)
Well, it has standard LF turning rate (1.33), while Decurion has 1.267, Hyena the same.
And while Phantom is tiny, Decurion is huge.

i think the problem is most people think that lf->hf->vhf means good->better->best. i personally think it should just be style of fighter. the quality should only be measured by who makes it and what mk it is and everything. a lf vs a vhf should be a fair fight, just both using different techniques. the lf strength is in its agility while the vhf strength is in power core. the hf is avg of both or jack of all trades.
with all fighters being "equal but diff" they should all be able to handle a bomber. a bomber should run into a fighter and wet himself. he should be able to fight back but not hold a signifigant advantage.
i personally wish so bad that lf had a solid place in freelancer. right now they are only marginally more agile but compromise a LOT in power.
-eh thats just my 2 cents though
Anyway, I started to fly LFs not so long ago, and I like them. It takes ages to kill anything, but its not impossible. Only thing that could be changed about them are 8 class weapons, which have ridiculous damage compared to 9s. There is a big gap between those classes, for some reason.
Without reading too much into the replies, my long experience with the 4.85 Liberator is this.
Lower the powerplant. I can fire two lvl 9 and lvl 8 Magma Hammers with little to no chance of draining the entire powerplant. Those are plasma weapons, they're meant to take a chunk out of the powerplant, especially out of the light fighters.
When it comes to the Liberator, they are a pure git to kill. Many a time against my opponents, I can type and dodge at the same time since the thing is so agile. Quite a few complaints from the local unlawfuls when I come out to play with some other Liberators.
When it comes to its armour though, don't touch it. Its like paper mache, hit it and its done. Just what a light fighter should be.
In jousts, its very hard to stay out of them and put a dent into bomber shields, the temptation to joust is great, but don't do it, CD and burn into their rear.
