Requirements of ships

Hi, I'm a relatively new player on Discovery, and still don't understand a lot about the game. Ever since browsing the wiki database when I first started I've been aspiring to get a few ships. Now I've read over the rules, however it seems to me like there are lots of hidden rules and conventions on this server that just isn't obvious to a new player. The ships I'm interested in are:

Shire transport
Luxury Liner
Royal Liner

I'm mainly interested in the 2 liners, but are there any prerequisites or restrictions I need to be aware of before i save up that large sum of money and splurge it on an awesome looking ship? :$

ships just have to be permitted by the ID. Orbital Spa & Cruise ID will give you both the liners. Bowex, Gateway, or a few other corps will give you the Shire.

So, get the rep of the faction, buy the ID, then buy the ship. Hooray.

You have to pick an appropriate ID. Find one that says you can use Liners, and you should be OK (for the latter two at least). My recommendation would be Orbital Spa & Cruise, but there are restrictions on things you can transport with those as well.

You should only use the shire transport with a bretonian corporation ID.

So transport restrictions are only with the OSC ID? I was looking at the gateway transport ID, so if I buy that ID, I could buy the Royal Liner with no repercussions? What about transport good limitations?

beyond that, i'd very strongly recommend reading the rumours in the bars of the stations of the faction that you choose, so you get a good understanding of what they're all about.

So transport restrictions are only with the OSC ID?

Actually, most IDs are having transport restrictions.
The most common is the: "Cant use transports over 3600 cargo"

Still, Gateway can use the Shire and the Royal Liner (correct me if I am wrong on the last one.)
While OSC can use all liners w/o any problem.

Just for clarification, joining a player faction is not required for the liners right? I'm very close to being able to afford it.
