i can use other skin patches than generic + liner + liberty ... but i gotto admit, i don t like many textures. - the civlian and utility skins are horrible, imo ( its my personal taste ) - kusari is a good one - but doesn t fit the order, not even dyed differently.
rheinland is a nice skin - but well - its rheinland after all. - bretonia has very interesting skins... that sadly only really suit bretonia.
the main skins used on the dreadnoughts hull are:
- generic weaponskins
- liberty basic
- liner basic
it is true that those are looking rather plain, - but they also do offer quite some detail from close up. - they do not however offer specific details ( like bump maps or fake holes / extrusions )
i also thought that the whole thing would be inside a nebula ( - but now it appears it s only hidden behind a nebula )
the problem i have with those ships is.... - they are military ships, and military ships are not really known to be very exciting when it comes to the colouring. - they are just rather dull. - the current skin consists of many variour parts - so i could add more colour to it of course ( freelancer is still pretty colourful ) - but when it comes to looking convincingly "military" i think this skin fits it well. also - the skin is quite "sharp" at almost every distance - there are no real discontinoued edges or linings. - but you are correct.... like the zoner GB... most detail is created by the model itself - not by the skin.
here are the skinned versions of the station + ship
- one can easily see how large the station is supposed to be - and ( judging by the windows ) - how much personell is actually living there - or is supposed to live and work there.
* the tower structure won t make it in the game like that - i have to reduce its mesh - it was too complex:(
