Let us remember that RP is not just what you type in system or local chat - it is also what you DO.
Want to pirate me? Great, that should be fun! But when someone pirates me in a GMG transport with a Freelancer ID that is not RP (regardless of whether or not it breaks any rules). What that pirate SAYS is almost irrelevant - they would have to have one heck of an RP to justify that behavior.
Should I hire an escort? Of course (although none were available at that time)!
But here's the thing: I actually want to get pirated to some extent. Otherwise trading is pretty boring. If I hire an escort no one will pirate me. I WANT the chance to RP with the pirate.
My problem comes in where the pirate is in an OoRP ship with an inappropriate ID. I could be convinced by some good RP on those issues - but I'm not seeing that either.
I've also seen traders/miners not RPing as well. I was simply relating my own personal experiences as a player who is both in favor of the mining mod, but sees some issues. My only desire and intention is to help make everyone's experience more positive.
P.S- Look at the characters in my sig - if all I wanted to do was make imaginary credits, I would just spend all my time on my .:j:. character and power smuggle. As long as I stayed out of Kusari almost no one would mess with me much. I WANT SOME RP.

No, what you really want is to be pirated when your ready for it, under the circumstances you want it to happen under, and for an ammount you are willing to pay. Thats not the way thins game is played. Miner ID's can pirate you for your Ore, nothing oorp about that, did you ask them why they did it? Did you engage them in rp about it after the fact, or did you just complain to them that they were oorp?
@ Marlowe: I am so glad to actually hear that. I am happy that you want to actually role-play whilst you're trading, and you don't do it just for the profits. Kudos to you. In that post, you raised another issue:

There are rarely escorts around. Most just want to hunt pirates and don't want to do the boring work of escorting traders/miners. But the mining opens up a new opportunity of escorting, people will want more escorts and some people will make factions that can provide.
Another + for the mining mod.
[17:45:39] Wolfs Ghost (Murphy): Tom, you have problems. Go kill yourself.
[19:25:12] Johnny (Jam): Tomtom, I will beat you with a spoon.
[14:22:56] Prarabdh Thakur: KILL HIM WITH A SHEEP.
[17:40:48] Eagle (Junes): Tom should be slapped with a spoon.
[11:32:18] Warspite: Thank you for being so awesome Tom. <3
[18:17:36] Metano: I love you tomtom
[20:06:24] Warspite: I will seriously give you epic head.

Why is the Copper ore mined on Munich sold best price on Texas?
I mean, silver ore is sold on New Tokyo , thats ok, they dont have an embargo going on, but Rheinland and Liberty are at war and there is an embargo going on.
Is this normal? I want to sell my copper ore at best price and i need to go to Liberty? Why? You want more pilots on Libert or need more?

I don't think that's okay! I think that Canterbury should buy it too to refine it for cloud seeding operations!
More buy points for everything would be awesome. I demand more buy points to help my trader RPing with miners (that don't exist in the places he goes because you're all in Pennsylvania)!
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
I have a question: Why does the Miner ID allow piracy? I mean, it's understandable for BMM and Daumann and such, since they're large corporations well-known for their unscrupulous and downright illegal practices, but why are all miners allowed? That's like giving every trade faction, as well as the Indie Trader ID, the ability to pirate cargo. It makes little sense to me.
Otherwise, I like the mining system. If mining doesn't pay out at least as much per-person per-<unit of time> as powertrading, then it's just another thing no one does. The current mining system makes miners happy and it makes pirates happy. If some miners rage or break the rules when pirated, then that's just too bad. Smite them with holy Admin power.
I did nothing of the kind sir, and your insinuations are not appreciated. I remain, however, complimentary of your RP skills.
I did not expect to see YOU the other day in New Tokyo and you asked for far more than I would have liked to pay. I complied with little resistance as you will recall because we had a good RP encounter in my opinion. Therefore, your argument about what you believe I really want is flawed. Please sir do not put words in my mouth. I mean what I say and I say what I mean. I will do you the same courtesy sir.
As to the examples that I gave: I RPed as best I could under the circumstances and did not utter a single OOC comment in game to either of the players involved. In fact, they refused to respond to my attempts to RP with them. Furthermore, I have admitted that I was mistaken in my understanding of the Miner ID. I am human and capable of error. As are we all.
You will note, if you have read all my posts in this thread, that I have gone out of my way to avoid out right bad mouthing these players or naming them out of a desire to discuss this situation in a calm and rational manner without any name calling or insults.
I am not accusing you of doing that Zelot. I do not always agree with what you post on this forum but I have every respect for you as a RPer and as an important member of this community.

The real issue is that I have seen these guys with the GMG transports, and not once have I seen them OORP, not once have I seen them NOT rping. I have talked to them about their rp, and his a really interesting background, They have donated money to the AFA and apparently the Hogosha too, they have rped as Kusari, and done it really well. So what have they done wrong that you are specifically NOT badmouthing them for, because you seem to have complaints.
Anyone? What is the real complaint against these guys?
Well first of all I'm not sure that the pirate I am referring to and the group that you are referring to are the same people. They may be or they may not.
I will say that my pirate displayed no faction indicator in their name (official or otherwise) if that helps any. Also the incident I am referring to occurred in Liberty space.
Here are my complaints about that particular encounter (as done by the ESPN Monday Night Football crew):
1. Pirating with a Freelancer ID? Come on man!
2. No RP but a simple demand in leet-speak? Come on man!
3. Making an unreasonable demand (100% of my cargo - which he could not even carry)? Come on man!
4. Ignoring my attempts at RP? Come on man!
Thus sayeth Boomer and the gang...
Of course, 2. and 3. are arguably within the letter of the rules (but not the spirit). My belief is that the player involved had no desire to RP, nor had he read the rules or the ID mounted on his ship.
IF, this guy was a member of that group that you were referring to... Some RP along those lines would have been appreciated. I made no real attempt to escape.

That doesnt seem at all like the group I am refering to, and others have refered to in this thread. These guys have no faction tag or indicator, but fly mainly GMG miners and Big Dragon Transports and have miner IDs, but they do operate in Liberty. But I have seen them ask for 100% of the cargo, if this is not the group you are refering to, I am sorry. But others in this thread have complained about them, so for those of you complaining about the players flying GMG miners, Whats the complaint?
