There are so many profitable trade routes between Liberty and Rheinland... I thought it would be a neat RP idea to have one of those so-called RP mini events in which the trade embargo between the houses would be temporarily lifted.
It's been documented at many in-RP places that the war efforts have been sharply economically draining for both sides. It's not out of the question to say that the Liberty and Rheinland governments would work out a day- or week- (or any)-long armistice in order to stabilize their rule amidst growing unrest and strengthening unlawful factions (such as ones that ignore or possibly benefit from the embargo).
At the end, the houses could return to war, maintain a cease-fire, or look to peace and turn their efforts to quelling the exploding presence of unlawfuls, aliens and terrorists.
(Which, IMO, would be a seriously welcome change in this or any other event... I mean, seriously... how many morphs have you seen out there... today? Suddenly everyone and their brother finds the Kansas system and thinks they're the sh*t... And yet there's no real compelling reason to help enforce house laws and regulations when it pays better to break them...)
Anyway, that's not a topic for today. Sorry for getting off track.
I know this is all a bit wack in terms of historical diplomacy, but then again... Rheinland isn't exactly a conventional system of government. Neither is Liberty, really. Maybe it could work for a few days.
So basically they are at war and then decide "Hey let's trade with the house we're at war with to stabilize our economy"? Then go straight back to war? That seems a little pointless to me... Why don't they continue to trade with the houses they are allied with in order to get what they need? I mean sure, if they are going to go back to peacefulness after this event then I can understand opening up trade but if they are going to go back to war....
' Wrote:that would be like us tradeing with japan after pearl...IT WONT EVER HAPPEN till one side wins the war
OR it becomes so impossable to fight it(which would happen sooner for rhineland)
By ingame experience it seems the other way to me, but thats not the topic here so...
I find that pointless too, trading with your enemy to get some money and when they are both satisfied get to fight again. Maybe some diplomacy to slowly stop hostilities would be better and more logic than a temporal ceasefire.
Anyways its not like Daumanns supports the ceasefire
<.<
Edit: and It also doesnt looks like they are running out of money soon
Well it's true there are good trade routes that pass through the embargo.
With supply and demand in mind, it would make sense to assume that's because with the embargo in place, it's harder for either side to get their hands on these goods.
But instead of taking a direct route, you might still be able to make a tidy profit by going around the embargo through an allied house. It might take a bit longer, but you won't run the risk of having house police turning you around and sending you back the way you came with an empty hold.
Or violently molesting you when you try to resist.
Well yeah, I know the basis for this is a little shaky, but I think the point is strong... whereas,
a) LN and RM aren't being "put out" by the war effort... ie: there's never going to be one side "out of supplies/money" and forced to give up by attrition,
b) With that said, it is by default an attrition war since however many times RM can spank the LN in Texas, it will always remain Liberty space by virtue of how the mod works,
c) The point of unlawful factions destabilizing the governments' power is at least a valid RP starting point for something like this. In a real world situation, diplomacy has been used plenty of times to consolidate one nation's power -- even with a hostile partner,
d) Either that or (for example) Rheinland should start funding Rogues to disrupt Liberty, or vice-versa. Problem is, that strategy will never accomplish anything, again because of the nature of the game.
I just don't think there's much point to keeping both sides entirely closed off from half the players (or so)... if there's going to be a state of (unwinnable) war between them, we might as well RP some diplomacy and do what we can to enjoy all of Sirius.
' Wrote:Well some blockade running is one way... That is, legal to bring things from liberty to Rhineland.
Oh definitely, and if this was to go through, I'd assume there would be a strict list of acceptable/unacceptable commodities to import or export from the two houses.
For example... Rheinland bans the export of engine components, while Liberty bans the export of Boron... and so on, so that in RP, there's no reason to believe the new trade between the houses is militaristic in any way.
There could be a list of things including VIPs (dignitaries?), pharmaceuticals, food, water, neon, mining machinery... basically things that can be RP'd as diplomatic or otherwise civilian that would always be welcomed as imports.
