Well, Ive heard some people say "trading is fun" and they never bought a capship or a shiny white pickett overpriced armor upgrade to go around it and have 1.9bil on their accs... How do you have so much fun trading? Tips please? Oh yeah, and no mining. Its even more boring and whats worse is you have to share your money...
As trading as part of a faction is great fun because you have people to talk to and such, trading alone is boring in the extreme because you have -nothing- to do apart from watching a ship cruise.
I myself find it comes down to the people you interact with.
Hauling ore for a miner can give you that person to talk to, and Faction events like the DSE Tremont mining operation are good fun.
I guess, get an escort that will RP, even if you don't really need the protection, just to stave off the mundane.
If you don't want to share your profits mining, then don't. Just don't have escorts. I've only been pirated once while mining and that was because I forgot to keep track of where everyone was. Also, trading is fun because you get to see where everyone is and decide whether their name sounds pirat-ish. Also you can sometimes tell by their rank. There is lot's to keep you busy. I also like to do maths to find out how many more routes I have to do to get a certain amount. Ahh the simple things in life.
Trade through high pirate activity areas or smuggler through highly policed areas or both. Great fun!
One particular group have to both dodge pirates of almost every unlawful faction on the server AND the law enforcers their entire run on both the outward and return run.
It tends to keep you on your toes plus, a bit of RP never hurts anyone. You soon get to know the best RPers on that route and who you do and who you don't want to meet. After a while, they get to know you too and actually look out for you....
Plus, put a couple of variant runs in, just to keep your hand in.
