Emun Lains was born on Planet Manhattan, New York. Being born into a rather poor family, Emun had more responsibilities than many of his peers. Since his mother died at childbirth, Emun's life was always lead under the guidance of his father, George Lains.
As Emun finished high-school, he decided to go to university and study Psychology, specifically the field of Space Madness. Some of the credits for university was provided by Emun's tuition, some by his father, but the rest he himself had to work hard to earn. Nonetheless, Emun ended up loaning a large amount of credits that he was planning to repay after he graduated from the university and got a job in the field of Psychology, or something that payed well.
But during Emun's third year at university, his life rapidly changed for the worst. His father, a mechanic on Planet Manhattan, had a workplace accident - a gun that he was fixing misfired and incinerated him. Emun, grief stricken, missed a lot of his classes and lost his tuition funding.
Knowing that soon he won't have any money left at all, Emun started looking for a job. Luckily, only two days later, he came across a DSE recruitment droid which handed him an application to work for the company. Since Emun knew that he would not come back to study at the university, he sold his house and prepared for a new life as a trader. Having a good amount of money, Emun purchased a Mammoth Liberty Transport, which then went by the name "Williamson". With the debt weighing down on his shoulders, Emun knew that he had to make a large amount of credits in a small amount of time.
After dropping a note among those lines to his superior, he was given a dangerous but a well-payed task - delivering Jump Gate Parts to the Chugoku Gate Construction Site in Hokkaido. After making a few runs through the dangerous route Emun had enough money to hire a crew, which would speed-up the loading/unloading and repairing processes. It took him almost a month to find a good crew because Hokkaido was infamous for its radioactive fields and the Blood Dragon presence. Nonetheless, his new hired crew consisting of two brothers never abandoned him. Michael, who was about 2 years younger than Emun, was in charge of navigation and cargo, while Alex, about 6 years older than Emun, was in charge of turrets and repair jobs. They soon became friends, and the brothers agreed to lower their rates n order for Emun to pay back the debt faster. Due to their often ventures into the Hokkaido system, the Williamson crew found themselves to have slightly mutated due to all the radiation. The appeared to have a very fast regeneration rate of their wounds, but that also meant their nails and hair grew much faster than normal.
When Emun was close to paying back the debt, another life changing event occurred to him - he met the Consortium. Emun has met pirates before and they usually left him alone after a "donation". But the Consortium were different. They boarded his ship under the threat of destroying it and captured Emun and both his crew members. On board their captor's ship he and the brothers were given two choices: death or assimilation. When all three of them agreed to the latter, they were told that they were being taken to a base where their new life would begin.
After they arrived they were immediately shoved onto what looked to be an assembly line and told that the process is "quick and painless". EMUN now knew the whole history of the consortium and the part that he would have to play in it. He, along with his new assimilated crew, was told to head to Cali base in Tau-23 and fix his reputation on he Williamson, the name of which was now changed to Waylander. His new life has begun.
