I just turned my cockpit off about a year ago when I was taking screenshots for my desktop background.

Except there is a problem for capital ships where their engine effect covers the screen in cockpit mode. Mmm, probably should move camera hardpoint to front.
Nomads integrate themselves into their ships which are made out of the same sort of permiable matter that they are. So really every surface of it is an eye for the nomads. You may go as far as to say the ship itself is a nomad as when it's being controlled the nomad dissolves into almost every inch of it. Such is the way it would infect technology and electrical circuitry.
On the other hand, hybrids, specters and infected humans don't really have the same capabilities and so would require a modified version of the vessel in order to fly it. This idea of humas flying nomad vessels is entirely thought up by the community and so doesn't really fit into the freelancer facts.
No cockpit.
Turret view is probably the closest you'd get to a "nomad view"
Just turn it off in the options like schlurbi says.
Works well for the camera ship too.
Cockpit View was rather nice when you didnt have such limited fields of view...In otherwords, back when you could edit the field of view values so that it was more equivalent to that which you had in Chase View, although it was a tad bit distorted.
' Wrote:There are a lot of cockpit views that should be replaced or done away with. As it is, I think we're only working with vanilla cockpits, so for all of our new ships, there's only a set number of cockpit views we can give them. For example, my Arrow has the cockpit view of a Cavalier, when it clearly doesn't have those three frame-things on its window.
But people rarely fly in cockpit mode, so it's not a very high priority. And as people said, you can always turn the cockpit off.
Option 1: Copy the CMP file for the ship as the CMP file for the cockpit. This gives such results as:
It has a few model-clipping issues and doesnt display any high-tech 50th century equipment... but meh...
Or Option 2: Change Cockpit view so that it shows whats behind a ship (might be of some use for ships that have slightly heavy amounts of full arc turrets or rear-fire turrets (Mafic or maybe even Jaguar) allowing them to fly as they would normally while having the ability to shoot whats behind them with rear-fire turrets (Hitting V and going to Rear-View allows for no mouse controlled movement at all)
' Wrote:most people fly in 3rd person view anyways, but I have thought about the idea of replacing the 'defender' cockpit that nomad ships use with a custom, wavy-organic screen thingy.
Just be aware that transparency isn't possible with cockpits. I tried something similar, but it didn't work. (Maybe if they are 3db instead of CMP it might work?)
