One thing I've noticed is that there's never any escorts around when you need them. My cardi smuggler can't get an escort in Alpha because everyone's in a fegging outcast dreadnaught and says "Caps can't escort traders". I search through the player list for LR-, LH~, or MM~ tagged vessels. Nothing. No 101st, no SOB, no BLS, no ESS. Nothing. Nothing but a bunch of indies, and there's no way to know who and what they are.
sometimes it is true that finding an escort is a problem.. but its only right now when the player count is low. when the full server will be running i do not think you will have any problem
I usually ask in System chat in a system that is populated, and then I ask them to meet me in private near a station so we may discuss pay and routing. It's not as hard as people think. I mean, just try and when people see that escorts are wanted, they will think "Hey, I should try that". Lo and behold, more people ask for escorts and more people escorting.
The problem with you is that you're only trying established players. Ask that dreadnought if he can spare one of his wing to help you or ask a Falcatta sitting around, even if he has a loltastic name. It'll be glorious, I swear.

Full server, by contrast, is when I need escorts the most. It's not so much my smuggler that needs escorting, was just giving an example. I've been having this problem since long before the server crash... hell, I've been having this problem ever since 4.84.
I know we haven't been active since the server ddos and stuff, but give any VR- a message, and we'll go out of our way to escort you, usually for only a few units of cardamine. Once the server finishes shipping, you'll have better luck finding us, too.

On a different character, I asked for an escort for half an hour in New York, the most populated place on the server. You know what it got me? Ignored.
Also, I am asking that dreadnaught. He just says "Caps can't escort traders", even though there is no such rule. And everyone else always says no. I'm not sure what you mean by "only trying established players"... all I want to know is, are they on my side, or do they want to kill me?

Alright. I have yet to see a VR- tag ingame, but if I do, I'll happily ask you for an escort.

Well, this is when you start on your route and look at IDs and specifically ask people in local. Someone will respond. Not like they have anything else to do sitting around chatting anyway.
What I mean is that you're not trying indies. At least, that is what you made it sound like. If they have the Outcast ID, they probably like Cardimine. Just a hunch.
