I have a question: as a lawful, am I allowed to do my roleplaying talk before I get there? Such as "attn <playername>, if you're still present in New York (or wherever) when I arrive, your ship will be destroyed and pod taken to Huntsville/Sugarland"
Then, when I arrive
"engaging <playername>" Or do I have to do all my talking again?

Well IMO you are role playing all the way to him/her. So a quick "you ignored my request to leave piecefully" and "prepare to die" is all you would need. As a safety measure take a screen or 2 of chat just incase he states you did not RP him/her.
I agree, but alot of sore looser's out there. Also alot of non RP'rs out there hurting the good 1's. Think of it as insurance. You never want to use it,but it is there incase you need it.

Sorry... the point is exactely that there are not escorts cause there is not a profitable market for them, hence to balance things we should figure out a way to make escorts more profitable. Sorry for the repetition but apparently my point was not clear enough... or your reading was not very... very...
More profitable to be an escort? The only real way is to make pirating more expensive. If a pirate asks for two million (which is still the commonplace) and there is a chance to pay them, why would you ever pay an escort two million when there is a guarantee you'll pay them? If all of us pirates ask for more, escorts should ask for some bit under that. If 5k transports get taxed 5 million, ask for three million for them, and bring it down accordingly. Not only that, but the encounters aren't mutually exclusive. If one pays an escort, and then the escort fails and the pirate still makes him pay, the fee is doubled. That is utter tripe. If pirates cost more, escorting becomes more valuable. That's just it.
There is also the fact that most Freelancers and Mercenaries have no clue how to escort and don't do well to the name of escorts...
If pirates were all rougher and not so soft, people would want more people to pay for escorts. That's just it. Pirates are softer than escorts to both the wallet and psyche of the trader. Why would a trader pay what is essentially a pirate when pirates might be even nicer or not exist?
' Wrote:Again... Apparently my english is not clear enough... above I "bolded" the relevant part of my example... my point was that in the majority of the cases not only pirates does not pay any attention to RP... they do not even pay attention to fair play... a thing even worse.
Let me ask, if a trader says "I have a phone call" everytime I see him, does he really have a phone call, or is he tugging my belt? As someone who is very good at pirating and very good at getting away from pirates, I believe that there are two things fundamental to the survival of a trader:
1. Shields Up
2. Pirate thinking you're passive
If a pirate is dumb enough to sit there and wait until a trader gets back from "The Toilet", which, sadly, isn't often real, shucks to him. Power to pirates who strip shields while waiting for payment. It's the smart thing to do. If you want to blame someone, blame all the people who use OoRP to gain an RP advantage (of which there are many).
' Wrote:Now, I made an escort a few days ago. I'll copy and paste my, heh, in-depth findings from another thread in a moment. For now, I'll say that escorting is being portrayed as the way to make money at the moment, simply because apparently everyone wants them. This is a case of people being incapable of putting their money where their mouth is.
Next to no-one is interested in escorts - why yesterday, there was three of us escorts mooching around New York, frequently advertising ourselves while the system was absolutely full of high level traders. There was a fair few pirates too. That entire day I got two jobs. One was a short haul to Colorado and back, the other a long trip to New Tokyo. Total profit? 5.5 million.
To an extent, the man is correct. The traders don't want to part with their money - especially the ore miners and haulers it would seem. This is not always the case though. I made a habit of listening to people talking, then seeking out the more capable sounding players through PMs. I got quite a few more jobs that way.
As a matter of a fact, I made the majority of my money with two customers doing a back and forth trip from New Tokyo. That day I made 26 million. Swings and roundabouts, I guess. No-where near as good as tradeing, but it'll keep you in repairs and ammo.
This is because the forum population that actually does want escorts is only a fraction of the server. More people need to start setting examples of what escorts can do and start hiring them. More people need to ask for escorts in system. If the non-forum population sees that people want escorts, they'll think one of two things:
1. Wow, this escort thing is cool. I should get into that
2. Hey, maybe these escorts do something against those pirates I'm hearing so much about
Both of which can only be beneficial for the server and RP. Of course, they might ignore it completely, but, those are the people who want nothing to do with RP at all and just want a big gun.

Very good point. Why pay an escort a guaranteed 2mil? if you can just go alone, and maybe pay nothing?
Well 1 reason is that lately alot of peep's out there saying drop your cargo. Yes your whole cargo. now 5000 silver ore is what? 50mil? That is utter BS,and the 1 who said this to me got all my gun's in return, and when i was about to blow up i dropped the cargo, and fired on it myself. I find demand's like this to be POWER Pirating,and/or just to lazy to mine yourself, so they just take it from those who spend hour's mining it themselves, or pay a miner half it's worth in order to transport it. Now a miner transporting ore? well last i read, they cannot land on the profitable bases. So blow them to hell,or Screen them docking on said bases.
So, because you're angry about the fact that someone took half an hour of enjoyable rock shooting, you're going to take away the enjoyable RP that you might escape from if you just try and RP by shooting your rocks and making him in-RP angry? This really sounds like a mix of in and out of RP feelings. I mean, you not only lose your ore in doing this, but you also have a chance of exploding. I don't know about you, but I don't like losing valuables OR exploding.
Also, if you run headlong into pirates, don't complain when you get pirated.

Funny... you just used many posts to defend people thant does not do any reasonable RP and sometimes do not even care about fair play... and now you are using RP as an excuse for this kind of behaviour? It's like a tiger that uses the excuse of protecting sheeps to defend other tigers who have killed sheep heards... I'm really amazed by your rethoric... A+... you could have a career as a lawyer
