The globe of Planet Curacao turned outside the window as the reporters took their seats in the stately media room, chosen because of its high aesthetic appeal. It was furnished with comfortable chairs, rich carpets and ornate wall fittings. Charles Hargrave, PanGal's Head of Public Relations, stepped up to the podium at the head of the room. "Ladies and gentlemen, quiet please."
The hubbub died down. "Ladies and gentlemen, members of the press, we have called this press conference to announce a recent company acquisition. Please welcome the owner, founder and Chief Executive Officer of the PanGalactic Travel Company, Mister David Sanders."
Dave Sanders stepped up to the podium amidst a smattering of applause. "Thankyou. In recent times, there has been an upswing in crime levels across the sector, with no fewer than two of our vessels being threatened by pirates and terrorists since our company was founded in 816. In particular, the horror and evil of human trafficking and slavery is becoming a stain on our sector and our way of life, and a serious threat to human dignity and freedom as a whole." He paused for effect.
"For this reason, PanGalactic has recently closed a deal to acquire a mercenary outfit known as the Cortez Conquistadors, who will from this moment become our dedicated security wing. They have repeatedly distinguished themselves in combat and have become well-known in the Independent Worlds for their prowess and dedication."
He raised a hand to quell the rising chatter. "They will be expected to escort and defend PanGalactic ships whenever one is in need of it. When PanGalactic is not in need of their services, they will be permitted to supplement their income by accepting lawful bounties that do not conflict with Orbital Spa and Cruise or PanGalactic interests."
Charles Hargrave stepped up. "You may now ask questions."
