Today i encountered a very odd problem. I had Fraps activated, as usual. I did switch from Freelancer to the desktop, had a look onto something and switched back.
Fraps was showing me constantly 60 frames per seconds, as if vertical sync would be activated. I checked my driver control software, but vsync is deactivated there. I tried to activate and deactivate then again, but did not work.
Due to i have an ATI graphics card, i disabled the Catalyst A.I., and then i switched back to Freelancer. Surprise, surprise ... the old FPS rates have been back again. But only until i switch to the desktop. If i switch back again, it's back to 60 FPS.
It seems Freelancer only recognizes "Hey, look ... Vsync is deactivated." if i change some other options before i switch to Freelancer..
Any idea what could go wrong? Yesterday all was fine .. i did not change or update my drivers for weeks nor i changed any driver settings.
Does it matter? VSync on should help you avoid tearing. And 60 fps are enough to keep a more than smooth gameplay.
Other than that, i'm not sure what could be going wrong. Are you sure you do not have a special configuration for Freelancer in your videocard control panel?
It does matter for me. I noticed Freelancer appears to run much smoother when vsync is deactivated. Tearing does not occur.
I just dont know why Freelancer is running with vsync on, after i minimized it by jumping on the desktop, that's pretty odd and did not happen before. And i did not change anything in my settings or the driver nor do i have a special configuartion profile for Freelancer.
