ok i originally bought freelancer when it first came out and loved it....of course it was limited. so i lost interest. So i found this Mod and thought i'd check it out...cause i have tried newer "space" games and it still didn't hold up to the feel of Freelancer......anyway....i've not tried the multiplayer mode yet and am still not sure if i will...but i've been playing the SP on and off for about a week now and everything looks great. One thing i will say is HOLY CRAPOLLY!! the difficulty has been waaaaaay upped from the original...i understand why don't get me wrong and i agree with it.....but the story fights are INSANE....i just got done with the Tau 29 Rheinland encounter and after dying 5-6 times trying different strategies i finally had to go hide behind an asteroid and let my 2 invincible wingmen take out the battleship and multiple cruisers, then i came out and helped take out the fighters and gunboats....it was crazy how much harder they capital ships hit....first time on that fight i lasted about 2-3 seconds past the cutscene. So i figured out that my previous fighting style didn't work in the new version and i enjoy having to find different strategies to beat the SP missions. One thing i am concerned with is i remember some of the later battles being somewhat huge, so if i'm remembering correctly i think i'll be pretty busy cyphering.
all-in-all i'm greatly pleased with it and commend the maker....good jorb!
still in debate on the multiplayer though.....seems a bit intimidating
First off; yeah, I found it tough to begin with, but at the end, the final battles with the Nomads, it's actually easier (not than vanilla Freenalcer) because the Nomads don't have shields.
Secondly, multiplayer is much easier. Just join a group or something: most give you starting credits so you can get a good ship and weapons. Everyone (well, almost) is nice on the RP server, so please do not feel intimidated.
Welcome to disco! Beware Harley and Mal, they bite.
You have to start over. But with a faction, you can go out and buy ship/guns/armor (assuming it's a fighter, not a capship). Those don't take too long, either. If you're smart, you'll take out a loan from the bank (Yngen, I think?), buy a trader, pay him off, and then use that to get cash for you big guns.
