I agree. And after one year, you just register again (again 100% free) for another year of updates...
avast ftw. avg causes lots of problems, and for some reason kept on asking me to confirm every step of every line of every program... so i turned it off, which defeated the object of owning the damn thing in the first place.
I've been using Avira Antivir for a while, which is decent, especially for free AV software, though recently switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. Sure, it's Microsoft, and you better make sure you disable their SpyNet service if you don't want them to have access to some potentially private data of yours, but unlike most M$ stuff it actually works refreshingly well (and scores very awesomely performance-wise, too).
