I very rarely pirate for credits anymore, and it's a lot of fun. But still, it's nice to be a bit low on credits, come across a transport, and say "hey, just send me a few million, you get to live that way."
Just because it doesn't fit the "ye old definition" of piracy, doesn't mean it isn't piracy.
I enjoy the fact that you took my comment as a personal insult instead of taking it for what it is.
It isn't my definition of piracy. It is the definition of piracy. Pirates didn't board another ship and demand half the Queen's treasure from its captain. They took what they wanted (to include the ship at times) and either left or killed and then left.
Demanding millions of credits isn't piracy. It is extortion. (unless you are pirating the owner of a trade faction. =p)
What most pirates on this server do is hold the ship and its crew hostage until a ton of credits (of which the crew wouldn't have access to) is paid to them. The credits they receive is the ransom for the ship & crew.

Increase trade profits to the point where paying the government and still being able to have fun and I don't have a problem with it. As it stand now? No. You can't make enough to pay the lawfuls and the unlawfuls and still come out ahead.

Tried that, it was called the mining mod. The theory was "make something so profitable that people won't mind paying pirates or escorts." It generated more sanctions, whining, and nerfing then anything since the Phantoms.

Won't argue with that. You know what the problem is? You set up that system to allow piracy to be as profitable if not more profitable than pure trading. Why trade or mine when you can make the same if not more while also being able to get a blue message?

I really hope you aren't trying to claim the developers can't set up a test server and run tests. Or set up characters on the live server and run tests.
