Greetings Everyone.....I was wondering if there is a weekly or biweekly big ship race?
I thought it might be interesting, to hold a Long Distance Race for Large Transports/Liners....Big ships hard to fly between the trade lanes, maybe open it to the Hegemon as well. Imagine a race from Luxury Liner Shetland to the Orbial facility in Munich. Say a first prize of like 80mill. Its cannonball run type of thing but no hostile actions can be take against fellow competitors. If you have a something with only one gun...maybe you need an escort, as the way there is filled with Pirating activity. As it would be an advertised event, and the ships would have to follow a designated set of check points...maybe take Snap shots with Time code thing enabled as proof should it be needed....also require that the ships carry a ceritain amout in credits of an expensive commodity....So you got maybe 10-15 XL hard to fly ships...all leaving with expensive cargo...all going the same route....Have a couple of Camera Ships follow the action..
Anyways before I get to deep with it, this is just brain storming, I dont know if this is being done or has been attemped so someone clue me in on that.
If its not being done then.
1. What would be the proper way to Role Play it be?
2. Part of the Challenge should be Piloting required of BigShips. So what Ships would you allow. Categories?
3. What Sirus space could legaly be used for the race? What parts would be totaly off limits?
Maybe keep it real simple at first just to get the mechanics of the even worked out from an organizational perspective. It could open up some interesting RP possibilities....Cartels involved betting...an underground side contest with the Pirates as to which group can capture the most cargo from the ships....
Sirus BigShip Challenge- or something like that....
Thanks for taking the time to respond...and lets see where this goes.
I like that idea very much. Would vindicate all that time I spent speeding up my trade routes just that little bit more. When are you going to host it?
Logistics:
Previous races have made everyone join a single group to ensure no character switching and thus cheating.
Ships:
I would disallow anything that is too hard to get through the trade lanes. But allow all ships that have very difficult handling - I don't know the stats but you can sort of guess that anything with more than 4k cargo space will be shoddy.
Legality:
You could set the route through wherever you like but realise that the more waypoints you have the more marshals you need to ensure people actually use those points. Usually easiest just to have point A and point B
Betting syndicates:
Definitely a good idea. I certainly know a bank that would be interested in entertaining such a venture (hint hint!), though it wouldn't be able to place any odds till maybe 2 or 3 races in, so perhaps the semi-finals/finals.
RP:
Rp it however you like.
Prizes:
I would suggest having an entry fee and top 3 get something like 50%, 30% and 10% of the total sum of those fees. 10% to organisers and marshals:D
not a bad idea i like it you might even want to change it like this 40% 1st place 30% second place 20% third place and 10% for your marshals/crew you hired
