It was late into the night cycle when Nina awoke again. Next to her the nurse was reading datapad magazine.
She shifted around on the bed trying to get more comfortable. She could finnally feel her shoulders again and shifted them un-comfortably.
She was clearly. On less painkillers as parts of her body protested to being put back to work.
She took a deep breath before the nurse finnally realized she was awake. They chatted briefly about the newest rumors and the latest gossip. Apparently Omega 7 was turning into a feeding frenzy but most of it trivial.
The nurse finnally asked her:
"The doctor wanted me to tell you there is a girl on board who is looking for you."
Nina looked at the nurse puzzled.
"He says he needs... Your help. We don't understand it ourselves but rumors are her case is complicated. Her name is Lydia"
Nina dropped a brow in confusion. "The name doesn't ring any bells nurse. I know a Lynn but not a Lydia"
Nina let out a sigh starting to feel tired again.
"Can I get some water please?"
The nurse passed raised a glass to her lips and she sippied it slowly. It was hard to think clearly with all the sedatives. Lydia... Lydia...
"I'm not.. Sure."
"Look tell the doc I don't recognize the name and I'm going to pass out again soon. If it can help ask him to bring this lydia here. Maybe I will wake up and can talk to her"
She did a one armed shrug as her shoulder twinged.
She let out a deep breath and got comfortable to sleep again.
Her thoughts turned to lynn and how she missed her as she drifted off to sleep.

Dr. Holliday stood in the doorway to Lynn's room after it opened. He stood in his doctor's whites with his stethoscope around his neck. With a straight face, he just looked at Lynn, "Come with me."
The two made their way down many corridors, making turn after turn, leaving the secure area.
"As I can't quite figure you out, doing this is against my better judgment but I will bring you to Nina," he explained in a serious tone, "understand that she is in pretty bad shape and there is more work to be done on her but I think she is stable enough to allow a short visit."
He gave a short description of her injuries, "I pieced her left arm back together and she received a liver transplant as well. Once she has some strength back I will address the burns, scars and her mouth as well."
He then softly grabbed her arm and stopped her in the hall, "I had to resuscitate her upon her arrival."
He then became almost pleading with Lynn, "perhaps we can help each other. I'm bringing you here against the recommendations of other physicians so if you can help me to find out who did this to her...." He then stopped, having made his point, escorted her to Nina's room in the I.C.U.
Doc gave the watching nurse a break and he himself watched. There was Nina, peacefully resting, her monitor and I.V. pump the only noise around. The tube in her right hand flowing with water and sedatives. Doc checked her fluids while Lynn finally got her wish.
Doc placed a caring hand on the back of Lynn's shoulder, "Now you understand why I didn't want to tell where she is. She's been through a lot and needs her rest.
There she was. The words of the Doctor met Lynns Ears, but her body got jerked around on the Inside. The Guardian took over swift and merciless, chaining Lynn on her throne, ignoring her curses. Through the eyes, she looked down on Nina, her teeth biting on her lips. "It is not the one." she said, her voice calm and neutral, almost monotone, no bickering or no other tones. Something really new for her. "And I cannot know what happened to her. I looked for her the last week before she got admitted to this facility." Even with this contradiction, she wasn`t ready to tell any more, just looking sideways to the Doctor while holding a hand on her lips. "Her survival is very important... although I do not know her at all. Do your best." In her eyes the spark of fight is red like blood, her hand shivering on her head, just before she get the controll back. "Something else. I wish to see her more often. And I need hair color. At best Blonde or Red.And I want some some Ice Cream!" Suddenly, the tone of the voice shifted, her face got the crazy smile again. Her hand, almost like she noticed something, moved away from Nina.
"Phew.... I thought that wiuld never end." She whispered, nodding to the Doctor, then attempting to leave the room. "Bring me back to her when she is awake. I can help her." she said in the door, her whole body stiffening. Then she hits the door with her head. "Silence Already!" she growls, leaving the room, ignoring the bloody trickle of her head. The Guardian got such a big hold on her... it was terrifying. But when the grip loosened while moving away from Nina, she knew what happened. And she smiled. The Guardian gets stronger when someone important to her is close.

Dr. Holliday gave Lynn some time with her friend out of respect. Once she was finished, they quietly left after the visiting nurse returned. In the hallway, he just looked at Lynn, "Now you understand why I was so protective of her. She needs much rest."
He then sighed, "I will arrange for you to visit her. I can't guarantee that she will be awake when you do as she currently sleeps more than she's awake and even then it is in short amounts. I will have you escorted here for your visits and please, try to keep yourself composed." He then made a thought to her and in her mind she heard, "All of you. I would most appreciate it."
They began a walk back to her room, a walk in which he had a plan. Along the way, the passed a cafeteria.
"Nellie," he hollered to the lady behind the counter, "my friend would like some ice cream. I could use some myself, actually. Mocha chip for me and whatever my friend here wants." Each then began to enjoy their ice cream of choice like a couple of kids.
They finally arrived back to her room. "I will arrange it to have the beautician dye your hair. But, I need to return home for a couple of days and be with my wife and new daughter. Dr. Tesh will look after you."
As they spoke, another Klingon Guard approached with a man in a very elegant flight uniform.
"What do you want me to do with this Gallic Royal Brat," asked the Klingon, obvious that he would rather take him to the armory and shred him.
"I still haven't decided what to do with him or his companions yet so for now, confine them to their rooms as I'm not sure that they are trustworthy yet," ordered the doctor.
"But Ambassador," protested the pilot, "we wish asylum. We wish peace. Please, don't judge us for the actions of my government."
Doc just motioned for the guard to continue....and he did.
He then turned back to Lynn, "My apologies. I will see you in a couple of days."
The Ice was no wish from Lynn. Really, she hates all of it, all kind of sweet stuff. It remembers her too much. But she needs something to keep her body working. So she got two kilo of ice tucked under her arm and a big plate. While everyone wonders about her, about the size of her portion, her whole body shivers already how long it would take to train that off. But.... it has to be done. In her room she puts the ice cream on the plate, piling it up like a big mountain. Then she concentrates until she is in her own mind again.
"I know what you are planning. I do not like it, but I accept it. the guardian whispers while Lynn appears on the throne. Lydia, frightened like a tiny kitty, crouched on the backside of the throne, hoping to escape from Lynns attention this time. Her shock was big as both, Lynn and the Guardian, lifted the heavy chair up and moved it into the back of the room, right through the iron bars. "Sit on it. Then you get Ice Cream" the Guardian whispers to the little girl behind the bars, using a very wooing voice. "Be a good girl... I never lied to you.". Slowly, the little Girl moves toward the throne, climbing on top of it... and then slowly vanishing, along with the alien looking animal she is chained to. On the monitors you can see Lynn.... the actual body, starting to eat the ice cream in a very childish... and messy... kind of way. Already appearing dents in the plate and the table showed, that her strength was dangerous... but this way, no one will interrupt the talking.
"Okay Girl. We have a little problem... I don?t trust Clayface over here and she doesn`t trust me. So.... when we meet up with Nina, you will take over the body again." Lynn almost shouted, towering above the other her, who tries to hide behind herself. "Do that and I promise I find you a new body. There are some kids on this station, I am sure we can merge you with one of them. You can start from anew." The Guardian sneaks behind Lydia, holding her back softly, but on the other hand, holds her down so she can`t escape more. "I will promise you, she will keep her word. She wants us, both of us, out of here. And I will be the last one going... when she fulfills some of my wishes. The first one is, that I want to check on Nina. And Lynn cannot do it. She could kill her for a whim, just to weaken me and force me out." Lydia, shivering looks up to both her own personalities. Her chance of forgetting everything could be so true, but...how far can she trust other minds of her own? They never respected her, ignoring her at best and physically hurting her for fun at worst. But even when they break their promise... she tried to do something then, at least. "O...okay. I try it. I can`t promise you anything, but... but... can you cloak my memory again? Pl..please?" she whispers, almost fainting with the background.
Back in the room, at the same time, wherever enters Lynns room, can see her sitting clumsy on the bed, the emptied plate of ice cream broken in half and she is talking gibberish into the air, looking with burning blue eyes into the room. Then she crawls into the center of the room where she suddenly falls to sleep.

Dr. Holliday came to evaluate Nina. It had been over a week since her last surgery and all indications were showing good progress. As he took her vitals and inspected her left arm, right shin and performed a detailed scan of her internals, a week smile crossed his face. Yes, she was improving. As he did his work, she stirred to life although she said little. He noticed a soft smile on her still battered face. He took a seat to her right and spoke softly to her.
"I know you probably don't feel it but, um, you're doing much better. Your internal injuries have pretty well healed themselves and your new liver seems to be in full function," he explained. "Still, your left arm and shin will need more time...much more time. Once we get those healed and once I fix your teeth and you finish eye surgery...." he pointed at some of the ugly burns and scars on her body, "...I will get rid of those, as if they were never there." He got a bit closer to her and smiled with confidence, "You can count on it."
He looked at her chart and turned to the attending nurse, "I would like you to start feeding her soft foods. Keep the supplements going but I think she may like her appetite back. Start slowly, say, some yogurts and maybe some other pureed foods. Small amounts."
"Yes, Doctor," she answered with a smile.
He sat with Nina, trying to answer anything she might say but she just listened. Eventually, her eyes closed and she returned to her slumber.
Satisfied, Dr. Holliday finished his rounds for the morning.

"She just fell back asleep, Doctor," stated the nurse as Dr. Holliday entered the room to check on his patient, "she was a bit more talkative today."
"How did she do with her food?" he asked as he began checking vitals.
"I managed to get a full container of yogurt and some pureed beef into her," she explained, "she seems to like them both."
"Good," he answered, "keep the proteins going in as they'll help build her red blood cell count and may counter some of the weight loss she has endured." He then sighed, "it's not something she needed either."
He began scanning her with a portable scanner. All internal wounds were now healed and there was no rejection to her liver. Her right shin was healing satisfactorily and her left arm bones were doing equally well. Accordingly, he adjusted her drip of pain killers so as to enable her to stay up more.
"I have her scheduled to have her eye fixed in a couple of days and shortly after, her teeth. I need her awake enough to take a mold of her mouth."
Once he was finished, he raised the back part of her bed up so that she was sitting up some. He was satisfied of her progress and figured it would help her to maybe watch movies and such on a nearby monitor.
"Nurse Stacy, stay with her as I want her guarded still," he ordered.
"Yes, Doctor," she answered.
"A friend of hers, Miss Lynn, will be visiting," he explained, "she will have an escort here. You are to stay in room regardless. I'm still uncertain about her."
"Yes, Doctor," she again answered.
With that, he signed her chart and continued with his rounds.
"A few more minutes and I should have it," announced Dr. Helmut Steuben as he was on the finishing touches of repairing a detached retina of Nina's injure eye, "fortunately, her resting allowed the eye to heal itself a lot but..." He leaned over her, his lighted magnifier glasses allowing him to see in detail the damaged retina. He was showing it to Dr. Edward Tesh who was assisting, "...retinas need to be re-attached by a steady hand."
"Yes, I see," replied Dr. Tesh, "it is very delicate."
Steuben then took a tweezer like tool and with a laser suture, he re-attached it.
"Done!" he declared as he stood up, his instruments in hand, "now it will need time to re-adjust itself to her eye. Only time will tell if I will need to correct her vision."
He then turned to the attending nurse, "Bandage up the eye and keep her under for the next 12 hours and then return to her normal drip."
"Yes, Doctor," she answered as she began carrying out his instructions. The two men then made for the sink to clean up.
"It was a pleasure to have you assisting, Edward," praised Steuben with a smile.
"No, the pleasure was all mine," responded a smiling Dr. Tesh.
After a brief pause, Steuben asked, "So what happened with John? He was going to assist me on this."
"Heart transplant at Zhukovsky Station," explained Edward, "I saw him when he got back and boy was he in a mood. I didn't ask what was wrong though."
"Did he lose the patient?" inquired Steuben.
"No, he's doing fine," replied Edward, "I checked the file. Whatever happened must have been pretty traumatic."
"Well we all have days like that," stated Steuben, "maybe it's just as well that he takes some time to himself."
Steuben then made a check on the bandages over her eye and was satisfied.
"To the Pleasantview," declared Steuben, "this round is on me."
"No, it's on me!" declared Tesh.
"I said, it's on me!" demanded Steuben as they walked down the hall, continuing their friendly argument.
Nin awoke after her eye surgery. She had been nervous at first. The idea of someone poking her face made her uncomfortable.
The doctor had reassured her yet still she was nervous.
She blinked rapidly as her eye adjusted to the harsh lighting in the room. The nurse was dutifully by her side as ever.
She let out a deep long breath.
"Anistetic sleep is the best" she muttered to the nurse. She could feel parts of her body dhe hadn't in ages. She stretched her neck and let out a deep breath of pleasure.
"I don't suppose there is any chance in some coffee?" She said turning to the nurse.
The nurse opened her mouth to speak.
"For the love of all things good, I went through all of this I don't think some damn coffee is gonna kill me!"
The nurse jumped a little startled at the outburst before leaving the room.
Finnally Nina was alone. A wracking sob took her before she could control it. Guilty, tired and depressed she wished ferently that Egweneth was lying in this bed and not her.
Thinking of Egweneth and what had happened there brought fresh waves of emotional pain to her. She closed her eyes trying to remember the happy times they had together..
She managed to wipe her tears when the nurse returned with a small mug and a straw. She pushed herself up slightly to get more comfortable and she was getting sick of this damn bed.
The nurse held the straw to her lips and she sipped slowly.
The taste of the lukewarm coffee filled her mouth and she felt a new wave of energy.
The coffee was terrible, too sweet, too milky and only lukewarm but gods it tasted great.
She slowly took all of it in before smiling a little and sinking back onto the bed.
"I'm sorry I shouted at you Michael, this has been... Rough for me" she said turning her head away feeling ashamed.
The nurse shrugged and merely said she thought she could understand.
Determined to stay awake she asked the nurse to put a decent movie on and if she did fall asleep again, to ask the doctor when she could start walking around again.
