On three separate occasions have my Yakuza Raba ship been pirated when I was carrying food to Planet Crete. On all those three occasions it was an Outcast pilot. You know, the faction that the Hogosha hates? I was asked to either give two million credits or drop 1/3 of my cargo. Very logical, I even expected them to give a harsher tax.
The Yakuza who are active in Kusari pirate usually at 1-3 million credits or 1-1.5/3 of the trader's cargo. Unless they represent a corporation the Hogosha hates, e.g. a Bretonian one or if they are being rude.
These are my personal experiences with a group I'm in. I have also spotted multiple times by merely flying around Sirius people pirating each other. As I read through the local communications the average piracy price is also set towards 2.5 - 3 million credits. If it was a cargo piracy it would be about 2/3 of the trader's cargo.
Pirates asking for your 5K cargo, beam 50 units in, then blow it up.
These people are nothing but arseholes who take joy in pissing people off by nullifying their hard work or just terrorists looking for an excuse for a blue message.

Not going to argue but, which hard work? You mean, press the buy button?
I mean, buying from a station and moving it to the next station is not that -hard- work.
People with a different cargo, let's say... Ore... or I don't know... 5k of KNF pilots, you would be a jerk for destroying all that cargo, but, if it's so valued cargo, why did you get caught? Such valued cargo and you fly alone? Blame yourself for that.
But when it's about regular traders, how much are you losing even if they take all your cargo? 4 mil is the worst case? Poor the guy who trade with nuclear devices, I've done it before crying for not getting pirated in the way with 15mil worth cargo, but anyway, it doesn't hapen these days.
When I'm on my LF pirate, people mostly laugh at me, and don't even care of my ship, I demand 1 or 2 million, and they just try to run away, because "hey, it's a light fighter, can't touch this", so should I come here and whine because I spent twenty minutes waiting on a trade lane for a trader to pass my checkpoint, and the -bastard- didn't want to play my way and he just ran away?
The answer is NO, because if I want something I must make it happen (Note: Not many manage to escape anyway, yeah, LF works), if you are a trader, and you really believe your cargo is that worth, then, get an escort, send a scout, clean the path, DO SOMETHING TO DON'T GET PIRATED. Again, if you think it worths that much, otherwise, keep flying alone, risk it, and get over when you are pirated.
EDIT: YEah, I argued anyway:P
EDITED AGAIN:
I think people is too used to 2 million as standard pirates' demands, and like Zelot said, they go with the traders careless of getting stopped by pirates because it's just 2 million, well, I think a lesson is to be learned by every trader. I learned it, I raged once because a junker pirated my whole cargo, I raged when QCPs pirated my whole cargo, but hey, I thank them for that, now, when I see red on my way, I jump out of the lane, turn back and escape, because I like to fly alone with my trader and get the maximum profit that I can. Or I simply go to places where I know it's less problably to get pirated.

If I manage to catch someone, said person can expect to me to demand his cargo, but only as much as I self can carry. Some may moan, but at least they can keep some of the cargo that I can't carry.
Demanding credits? Rarely. Only if my hold is already loaded with stolen goods, or if the cargo is pretty much useless to me.

Yup. this is what pisses me of to. I would go as far as dumping 50% of my cargo, but as soon as it becomes me loosing profit, plus what i paid for cargo(sometimes up to 5mil) the pirate is just being a jerk off.
@ Casero. It is fine and dandy to jump off lanes when you see red. Problem is right now you get freelancer's,and Pirate ID'd players who are neutral,or even green to the people they rob. As of yet the admins do nothing to fix this. I have had 3 Freelancers in P-trans demad all my cargo now a few times. No RP reason for it,they just want to take it,and then land where i was heading for easy cash. I have seen this happen to gold miners also in Munich. Pirate the trader/miner with ore 15K from the base you sell it at. Total lack of any RP,and abusive IMO.

Liberty mainly, I ran into one recently in Rheinland, then Jarek's RM turned up and I quickly made off.

Sure am, not.
Glad we sorted that one out.

The hard work you will not mind doing for everyone on the server, since trading so nice and easy. Let me know when you get my 2 billion, do not worry, I am sure you will not break a sweat.

Ah yes, the standard n00bl3t response. Ignoring completely the whole post and null it down to a one-liner reply.
Truly you are the master of this.
' Wrote:If every pirate starts taking all the cargo without RP reason behind it it will cause traders just to ignore pirates and possible RP involved as the result would always be empty cargo hold
Your response:
' Wrote:You mean like how the situation is now?
Equals a massive exaggeration of the current situation. This is not the case. Every pirate does not take all the cargo let alone without Role-Play reason to back it up. QCP are one of those who usually demands all cargo but they have a clear Role-Play reason for it. (Reference: Disrupting the Kusari economy).
However, the pirates I have stumbled upon being a trader vessel myself, never asked me to give away all of my cargo. Never. Not even once. But even if they did. I wouldn't whine about it because I know that there are so many ways to avoid them. Hiring a scout, flying above plane, taking other routes. Etc. etc.
What you are doing here is called "bitching - Discovery style." Bitching - Discovery style means that there is a problem which can be fixed if you gave a second of thought to it and actually took action but instead you decide to cry about it on the forums hoping it will get solved.
I have traded for a week now and I know how to avoid 90% of pirate encounters. I'm guessing you have traded for well over a year but here we are, you bitching about getting pirated, the harshness of it and adding small inputs of your personal distaste towards the current economy. Whilst I go around making money.

Red was just saying, I jump out when I see someone sitting next to my lane.
@n00bl3t: You are probably the only guy who has 2 billion. Now, sarcasm out, if you got caught, A) You didn't do your job well, or B) The pirates did their job really well. Not everybody ask for the whole cargo, not everybody ask for 15 million on a Superconductor trader, so, we don't need a rule to prevent something that is not a problem.
And knowing how you like to argue to the end of times, I'll stop posting here, and leaving you this:
You got pirated for the whole cargo, now dock, log off, Q_Q, get over it, and get trading again, perhapes you will like to hire someone or use an alternative route.
EDITED:
@Sina: And even the QCPs don't always pirate the whole cargo, I'm a witness of this.
Oh please don't give me that. The Role-Play of my transport vessel is to earn cash, a method is to fly above plain over areas that are known to have a very high pirate activity.
Yours might be to fly around and greet every pilot you see and invite them to a tea-party whilst discussing about the latest politics of the region you are currently in, but mine is to earn money.
Go Q_Q about your great way of Role-Playing somewhere else.
