The current design more looks like it has a window-section on the outer side of the ring, and that really would be pointless with a spinning ring (only if it would spin VERY slowly, making it some sort of panoramic version. Would be very representative). Another explanation would be to emulate gravity by rotating the ring, but then the outer side of the ring would be the "ground" level and wouldn't have this window-ring. Difficult to explain, I hope you get what I mean.
Both solutions would work fine, though I think Trenton and USI has enough money to afford regular gravity generators and could afford to have the ring rotate simply for aesthetic purpose for the desk workers and visitors that use this sector, maybe ("a working place with a different view every day!")
The shipyard thing would also make a perfect docking station. Especially with its physical proximity to the storage depots I easily can imagine trains being unloaded here and have their cargo be transfered to the depot, though it works best for raw materials and even better for fluid or gaseous materials (being pumped into the tanks). I take it the trains will not be stationary parts of the station so players can RP docking/loading sequences at this part of the station?
I said this over Skype, but due to internet restrictions and other problems, I best say it here aswell. The original model had too many issues and problems with it for me to texture, and around 3PM yesterday I gave up, and scrapped the whole thing.
However, I was in a good mood, so I set about making a new one. It looks very similar, but is slightly different, and I finished texturing it last night at around 10 ish.
I now have exams this week, so when I can I'll put up pictures of it, and if you want a better texture job (You probably will do, the currently one is rather bland) you'll either need to wait until my exams are over (2 and a half weeks) or ask another modeller to improve the texture job.
I am now at the point of animating the bay doors. I will hold off until I can put a picture up of the station so you can decide between a better texture job or just to get it ingame.
I was texturing the station, but I DIDN'T found no problems when texturing it.
I mean, I checked it twice, to see if theres any double faces and etc, but no - it does not. However, when I get my PC back online - I'll show you what I finished up in it. A problem that I will have is implementing it in-game.
I doubt Trenton needs shipyard. What for? We have Baltimore just one jump away, and Norfolk two jumps away.
Spnning ring? Luxury. Then Trenton should be moved out of orbit - and it'll loose it's purpose since Trenton is shipping platform, somewhat like Kengsington.
