Pros-
More work in escorts.
More activity for police and militaries.
More exciting trading.
Less complaints in forums.(The traders on the whole seem to be a more level-headed bunch)
Pirates being more..well..piratey(thats not even a word :X)
Cons-
Traders might not like a new threat.
More capital ship use.
Would cause bigger escorts, causing pirates asking for battleships.
Gunboats are powerful enough, cruisers are overkill.
Possible situations.
Stays as is.
Rules and ingame info reworded to stop any possible arguement or misunderstanding.
Allowed to pirate in cruisers.
I think these last three are more hopeful: EDIT: Cons- All too complicated.
Can only use cruisers for transport class traders(i.e, not if they are in a freighter or other ship)
Can only use cruisers on higher level traders.(say, 63)
Can only use the cruiser in support of fighters.(To CD the train and fight the escorts.)
I`ll edit in more pros and cons if people make any.
Considering most traders travel in packs these days with escorts and military support, there's pretty much ZERO chance any trader will be successfully pirated by anyone in a fighter. This means pirates must use a gunboat or better. Traders are a lot more difficult to take down than you think. The biggest challenge is to get them alone, scan them and demand payment before they can jump to another system (typically using the F1 mid jump) or docking somewhere.
Actually Archelon, I've just taking to dropping transports out of all Transports out of cruise with a Hornet, then scanning them. Saves time hassle, and if they don't comply with your demands then you can just blow them to hell. That said hornets seem to have a very limited effectiveness, I don't know why, but they just don't work as well as I would hope.
I personally think cruiser's are too powerful to pirate with. My container was hit by a GB and if i didn't dock i would be dead.He went through my sheilds and armour like a hot knife throgh butter, and i have VIII armour upgrade on it.used all bats and most bots in like 30 seconds.
Have to agree with Ryoken, cruisers to powerful to pirate, or be in attendance to deal with escorts.
Next move, escorts will be be cruisers, pirates will be calling for battleships to be used, and then the
whole server will be flying capital ships to move anywhere. Two well armed, well flown fighters can
still easily remove a Train or a C/T.
The other thing we don't really need is a lot of different sub-rules concerning ship levels, when you
can have, or not have a certain ship there, and which type of ships you should be looking for. Hard
enough for some people to follow simple rules as it is ... Some rules may need a little tweak, but not
a whole raft of unreadable garbage, for people to ignore further.
Hoodlum
Some say he is a proud member of: "The most paranoid group of people in the Community."
I agree will hood. This could just get out of hand if one side Traders & pirates want to get one step ahead (Ship power-wise) so they have a head start on the 'other side'. I think a gunboat should be the limit for pirates anything bigger and its gonna get complicated.

So a better use for cruisers and battleships would be to distract the local military while the smaller pirates go after the traders?
After some testing bombers and gunboats do damage transport shields at a good rate.
I would have expected more piracy, why is there a general view that the military and traders are currently more numerous and powerful than pirates then?
In my opinion, the pirates should use what ship they think is necesary. Battlehsips are too much, but cruisers are gunboats are ok. This would force traders to ask for escort ships. For the traders to have a chance, they should use battleships for escorts, but not more than one at a time. That'd be great... call in the bombers to blow the battleship, then ask 10 mil from the trader...:DThat'd be sweet...
Now tell me how a Battleship escort or even a Pirate Battleship would be practical? Most trade runs go through asteroids and the like. A BS would get hung up everywhere the train goes. Gunboats should be the limit for pirates. If you give them cruisers the battleship will be next.
You can pirate with fighters. I've done it. The train CD's work very, very well. The pirates should hunt in packs and the traders should trade in convoys or with escorts. .
