all 4 of my char's are pirates and not once have i felt like it was hard, but you saying its very hard, unbeatable and frustrating game with a unlawful character.
I dont get it.
Also theres mostly the same amount of pirate factions, pirate players and lawful factions and lawful players on at anyone time, so i dont no where your getting your info from.
And when im in my Corsair Gunboat i can kill a trader in a few minutes, it isnt that hard.
Just because it isnt hard in a gunboat isnt a reason for cruisers not to be used.
Also I dont have a pirate character, my character with the most hours is my large train. So Im not wanting pirate cruisers for my own use, I want them because I dont even think about pirates when Im trading, never mind be threatened by one.
Ok here's my 2 cents, personally I think the game's mechanics are more important than game play personally. Here's an example, how many ships can any of you count the fighters out there that have that annoying turret or gun that only fires backwards? That's a model / mechanical issue and to me is of more importance than pirating in crusiers and or battleships. Who all knows what "ass-backward pliers" are? (cant remember the real name of the tool). Well these ships are like "ass-backward pliers" making their "ass-backward turrets" or "ass-backward guns" totally useless (for those of you who dont know what "ass-backward pliers" are they are pliers that do not operate normally, instead of squeezing the handles inwards, they actually sqeeze outwards.")
Mechanical issues to me should be a higher priority if I were a game designer, or mod developer. Because after all, without properly working ships, how can one enjoy the game to its fullest potential? ya sure we cope and its not that big of a deal, but a problem is a problem until it's fixed. Just keep in mind this is purely an example of what "some people" might consider more important.
Now I've said my peace
Personally I think some people are going about Pirating the entirely wrong way. Those of you who want more damage and currently use a fighter to pirate with need to try a bomber with 4 coladas, and 2 nova antimatter cannons, and start chanting "bye bye traders" in succession or start singing "LOUIE LOUIE" by Richard Berry. To those of you who fly gunboats and "think" you need more firepower, shame on you, didn't your mothers ever tell you "greed is the root of all evil?" A gunboat should completely and utterly, decimate beyond all belief, anything resembling a trader honestly.
So with that, I remain neutral @ 50/50 for and against this notion of using crusiers as pirating vessels. Oh and ya I fly a container transport as "neXus" on the RP server and just today I encountered a gunboat that could have killed me if I stayed in one system. He decimated my shields in a matter of seconds and even though I do have mark 8 armor upgrades I still was going to die if I had not of jumped out of that system and into another. VS fighters the container transport is pretty well equipped but vs a bomber and it's goodnight sleep tight. Also, if anyone raises the point of container ships being too well equipped they need to read the RP and description behind them because they are supposed to be that well equipped for battle. As it stands the container transport gives up 100 cargo space and better manuverability to a large train for the same cost in credits.

Hmmm, there does seem to be a lot of whining about pirating being hard in this thread...
Remember, pirating isn't meant as a substitute for trading. They are together completely different things. You aren't supposed to make 50-70 million an hour pirating. There just aren't that many traders for that. Even if there were, some woouldn't pay you even if you kill them 3 billion times, some will get away from you, some may even kill you. That's the way of the pirate. It was NEVER meant to be easy.
Think of it this way. Pirates, mainly because the cash flow is irregular and sparse, shouldn't have enough cash to buy / opperate a big ship like a cruiser or battleship. They also live in unnaccessible places since they are unlawful, so such a big ship would be unpractical. And yes, lawfuls outnumber unlawfuls. So what? If you're pirating in Cambridge, every lawful on the server isn't instantly going to come down on you. You go in, you pirate, you get out.
If you all are having this much trouble pirating, when I can make anywhere from 10 - 40 million an hour doing the same thing, I must be almost god-like. Sorry to blow my own trumpet, but that's the way it's sounding.
Ever thought you're missing all the good, fat, juicy traders whilst you're sitting here whining that you can't pirate easily like a big bunch of babies? I mean seriously, as soon as I see F Wolf posting, I'll go fly straight passed a Hessian base in my train, because I know he'll be hamming it up on the forums.
When I pirate, I pirate with others. It's so much easier that way.
And think of it this way. As soon as cruisers are allowed to pirate, this whole thing will be repeated with traders complaining that it's too hard to trade. Trading isn't supposed to be easy, but pirating is supposed to be harder.

AMEN
I know that pirates will never be able to pirate in anything bigger than a GB why? Not becasue it is riddculus but becasue there are too many people that care too much about there profits as a trader to allow for REALISTIC RP. A pirate is a pirate, I am sick and tried of players expecting us to play fair! It is our character's personality to be evil! For Example my when My Helghast Character Ash Archer is told he is unfair he simply relpies "the only unfair fight is the one you loose" that is how the Lawfuls are thinkin, that it should be impossible for a pirate force to win. Think of the Outcast for petes sake! They are nothing short of bieng there own house! Could Liberty Loose a War to Rhienland?! Yes, so why is it impossible for them to loose to the Outcasts? Simple becasue they are they are seen as Pirates without a power.
I reference to a Capship whoring comment made; we currently allow for Pirates to pirate in GBs but do they? I have seen 1 other pirate pirate in a GB and he is now baned!
Zepphos, do you think that I only play Discovery? Hah! Theres life outside here, and in most of the other servers, rules are equal for both sides. And sincerely, Im not crying, I just asking for balance. I suggest you read the last paragraph of my previous post. I have two choices here: dull game with lawfuls, or frustrating game with unlawfuls.
The only ones who are actually crying are the traders complaining about xenos pirating in fighters, the same traders who actually think there should be a rule prohibiting piracy in full extent. We are complaining about a rule. We are not complaining that its hard to pirate. The traders who complain about pirates are not complaining about a rule, but about the game itself. And even the rule being removed, still we will have ten lawfuls for each unlawful in the server, and the arrogant "pwzors" who only cares for their buddies. And I will not complain about these two problems, as they dont have anything to do with the server rules.
Fact is: I throwed the continuation of two of my stories in the recicle bin, because they were to involve the attack on a prison ship by my outcast destroyer. I was to search for a trader with this kind of ship, or made the event with some guy (Hylden was most likely to be called for that), and post screens in the story thread. The background was already done, but then I thought about some cretin passing in Texas during the event, and starting ooc crap in system chat, like "taking screenies", "I will report", etc. Im sick of this attitude. Im sick of screenshot whores, crying babies, ruleplayers. So I desisted of the idea.
This is just to illustrate how this rule is anti-roleplay and pro-ruleplay, and is only here so that the true crying babies can trade without any difficult, then buy their battleships and go to Connectitut, where they pose together for screenshots. Uber ridiculous, uber crap.
Now, if you excuse me, I have better things to do now. As I said, theres life outside here.
Wolf, you are right, there is life outside of here, but I couldn't find one other server I would consider lively
actually running the Discovery mod. Those others are the ones where you need an [X] or a [T] with your
name so the lazier or those not inclined to roleplay can just go after targets with very little thought.
This IS Discovery, and its different, and long may it stay that way ...
If you had wanted to continue your roleplay stories with a prison liner involved, only had to get it fitted
with a gunboat shield and weapons, then of course it would have ceased to be a transport, becoming a
viable target for a cruiser. But you just continue to whine...
You are obviously a smart boy, so you must have realised that this mod doesn't suit your style. What it
does though, is suit a lot of other people. You can work out the answer there I'm sure ...
Jack, your comments really don't make much sense, and we all know who that gunboat pilot was, and
he never pirated, just wanted to blow people up. I can currently think of at least five other GBs pirating
at the moment, shows how much you look around ...
Mastery, I was getting a little worried, thought you wanted this brought in so your Jupiter Guild would
have some work for those Merc pilots, if they ever turn up, to escort traders. Though I seem to remember
hiring you, when no IND Epsilons were on, so you could test your bomber. Lots of Xenos around Liberty
that day, lucky they weren't in cruisers.
Afraid I'm with Zepphos and Blunt here, bit more thought before we open the capship floodgates ...

Sorry F Wolf, but for someone who thinks that there is life outside of disco (and there isn't. I've looked) you don't half like whining here.
The rules have been put into place to balance the trader/pirate fight. Barely any traders, except IND, run with escorts. Don't lie, they don't. So, trader comes up against a cruiser. If the trader tries to run, he's dead in three shots. The mere fact that it can happen so fast brings into play many other opportunities for pirates. Such as, station camping. I could park my cruiser outside Corfu and charge or kill anyone that wants to dock. Then there is the whole cap whoring issue...
Yes, lawfuls DO outnumber unlawfuls, but isn't that the way it should be? I'm sorry, but the vast majority of Sirius is lawful, so the players should mirror that. Now, think about all the cruisers you come up against in a pirate gunboat, or all the gunboats you come up against in your bomber/fighter. Now imagine what will happen if you had a cruiser... battleships, everywhere!!!! The only thing stopping this right now are the ship restrictions that factions have put into place. I'm sure these will be lifted when every pirate and his dog has a cruiser. Then you'll complain again about this entire thing and want battleships to even the field. Then when lawfuls out number you, you'll complain about that... When will it end? NEVER!! Because whoever has the slightly weak end of the deal will ALWAYS complain.
And really, stop complaining that you don't like whoever on disco. I don't like you because of your arrogant attitude and your persistance to go against the common consensus no matter how ridiculus it makes you sound. It's stupid, and quite frankly, embarrassing... But you don't see me complaining about it, do you?... Just grow up.
Mastery: I'll always welcome a new pirate hand out in the Omegas. Make sure you're faction choice is reputable with the Corsairs, however, or I'll destroy you to protect my profits. I managed to pirate 10 Million in 20 minutes last night, so the traffic is good at the moment. Expect a little interference from the SF every now and again, though.
