So hey. Here's my question. A lot of talks have happened lately about the junker pirating and junker getting FR5ed soon after that because someone reported him.
So I pondered and I pondered until I talked about totally different thing with people not related to junkers. And it hit me!
Why did admins actually make a rule that Junkers cannot pirate in house space? Why didn't they just let things resolve on their own. Why didn't a junker that pirated a BMM miner, got reported to BMM and to Junkers and why didn't appropriate official factions do their FR 5 thing, and even pulled out some strings to make other factions deny docking rights to a said individual.
Why did we take the rules route instead of RP route when official factions are there for that reason only?
At least disagree with me people. The junker camping of the damn trade lines waiting for the miners to come with ore and pirating them sensless without anything but basic rp to avoid sanction sucked big time
rest of normal junkers suffered a lot! why would they continue to suffer when an official faction could be involved and simply deal with the problem with fr5.
Remember people he has nowhere to sell that ore once selling points FR5 him.
Actually, that sort of thing was exactly what I whined and bitched about when the ID changes took place. This sort of thing should be solved in-RP. If a Junker pirates a BMM and gets reported to the official faction for it then they have all the right to FR5 him.
Nice to agree with you AJ, it feels good. I feel that these things could be resolved, and then those cunning Junkers that are cunning enough to pirate could do so, while those that were responsible for this "nerf" in the first place would find their ships worthless soon.
Without knowing all of the deep, dark backgrounds, I would guesstimate that the rule was originally based upon Junkers not doing stuff openly in house space that are unlawful, so that they don't ruin their reputations and end up actually having large Police and/or Naval groups coming along and squishing their stations.
Junkers are sort of like cockroaches - you step on one, and then two more come scurrying out of the darkness for someplace else. That's fine on an individual basis. But if the cockroaches get out of hand, then the exterminator comes in and fumigates things - which is what that Junker Congress and those people who live in the bases would want to NOT have happen.
The other item is that there IS an RP solution that has come up - and the Junkers have been screaming about the implementation of that solution right from the start. One that doesn't even involve FR 5 - just lots of bounties...

Oh . . you mean the blanket bounty that had nothing to do with junkers pirating?
Assuming the server rules allowed junkers to say, sit on a lane in New London and pirate BMM miners. What should happen, BMM guy sends evidence to HQ (assuming he wasn't blown up. I mean . . how can you report someone, if you died?) BMM complain to the Congress and Bretonian forces. BMM has bounty placed on the individual, and if said junker keeps pirating openly, he gets FR-5ed from bretonia in general. ....in other words, +1 to Agmen's post.
Junker pirates in Bret.
Junkers cross the line.
Junkers declared Outlaw in Bret.
Junkers then... What? Q_Q? Go to war? Some other form of total idiocy?
The right was locked down because there is no room for repercussions. So unless y'all want Rochester to be blown up and Junkers declared persona non grata in Liberty because they caught a bunch of Junker Pirate Transports waiting for gold shipments... Yeh.
But maybe ALG would be willing to take it over... Hmm....
One, it's really REALLY weird to be pirated by a Junker a half TL away from the sale point, and then fly side by side with that Junker to the base.
Two, the people doing said piracy really tarnish the reputation of all Junkers, but they don't really care, because it's the .:j:. that take the brunt of the ire.
Three, ID rules are there to provide guidelines for RP. I.E. Xenos cannot pirate for credits. If that line wasn't there, Xenos would be pirating for credits, even though that's not really their modus operendi.
Also, a Junker FR5, only makes a person hostile to Junkers, for someone to lose access to all the selling points, a dozen or so factions would have to FR5 him.
I still think it sucks how people do things and what do you have to do to prevent them from doing those things. Couldn't xeno that pirates for credits be reported for 1.1? (rp is mandatory)
Couldn't a junker be reported for the same thing in generally by .:j:. and have his life tragically end since he pirates in plain sight?
I mean, it's all all right, I don't mind. Don't have a junker. I think I just chose Corsair early at the crossroad and it got stuck. But it's a damn shame that two smart junkers cannot con a blockade runner by offering him escort trough the house space and pirate him near his goal.
Well yeah, technically now they can, but Agmen said that irks him.
If only one could interpret the rule by saying they cannot pirate 5k from the gates and lanes. Things would clear up a lot.
Junker pirates DSE. DSE complains. Said junker is rephacked hostile to DSE, Liberty Police, and Liberty Navy. Or less effective, added to liberty's bounty board.
Edit: From what Ivan said, it really would, make sense for junkers to be allowed to pirate 5k's, that are foolish enough to fly through jumpholes and debris fields.
