Kane sat back in his seat and contemplated what he had said. He ran through every sentence in the past few minutes, trying to pinpoint the major problem. No matter what else he tried to look at as the issue, it always fell back to that one eight-letter word.
"Together."
He knew he could have worded it differently. It sounded right in my head at the time, he constantly thought to himself. No matter how many times he said it though, he couldn't shake the feeling that he had completely messed everything up... whatever that "everything" was.
X sits up quickly, getting off of the stool in a lethargic fashion, before quickly losing his balance, "O..hhoh... sshhhhh-," he was cut off by the crash of his steel armour against the floor, slowly turning onto his back. "Gmrmrmmmm...."he mumbled, trying to get up to no avail, barely managing to sit upright, his eyes showing a slight crimson tint under the blue glow of the globes.
Kane sighed. He stood up and stretched, feeling less pain from the punch than before.
He took Lavinia's hand gently and looked her in the eye.
"Could we go somewhere a little quieter?" he asked politely. "There's something I really want to tell you." He flashed a little smile to go along with it.
Lavinia suddenly blushed without knowing why.
"Uhm...sure...I guess we could..." she managed to stammer out, standing up next to Kane and watching him curiously.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
Kane led Lavinia out of the bar, avoiding X, and down the hallway. He stopped and looked at her, still holding onto her hand lightly. He inhaled.
"There's something I really want to tell you," he said. "I'm not going to let it sit inside me any longer, and I'm not going to just delay it anymore."
He bit his lip lightly and then released it almost instantly.
"Lavinia... I know we haven't known each other for very long, but I really enjoy spending time with you. Last night was one of the most fun things I've done in a long time and... well..."
He swallowed, afraid of what her response would be. He looked her in the eye.
Lavinia's eyes widened, and her mouth hung slightly open in surprise.
"Kane...I...I..." Lavinia stammered, unable to speak her emotions, instead responding with a tight hug, burying her head into Kane's shoulder.
A million dollars isn't cool. You know what is cool? A basilisk.
"I'm really sorry to just drop this on you so suddenly," he said. "I just couldn't keep it inside any longer. I don't need anything more than a response. I just needed to tell you.."
He lowered his head to near the height of Lavinia's.
X sneers to himself, the effects of the liquor starting to wear off on him. He say Kane and Lavinia leave, and really, he didn't care anymore. He stood up slowly, lifting a bottle of pills off of his belt and taking two, placing the container back and leaving.
