The concept of Science Fiction is to take something unrealistic and have it make sense. So just saying "It's science fiction, lol" isn't really an excuse.
Making things believable gives the game more depth. It's not like the weapon it's self is gonna change, just the lore behind it, and how it works. It's still gonna be the QQ spawning pwn machine.
The point of roleplaying is taking things that are far fetched and make it believable.
Besides, a change of name and history would have no impact on the weapon performance whatsoever. You people are just too stubborn because you're used to calling it Antimatter and you're afraid of new things.
Antimatter is just negatively charged matter, so antimatter cannons are actually quite feasable. An antimatter cannon works in pretty much the same way as a plasma cannon, except it uses antimatter instead of superheated particles.
What about the singularity cannon used by the nomads? that thing is harder to explane than the SNAC.

But we don't have to explain the singularity cannon, because that is something of the mysterious powers, which go futher then humans understand and blahblahblah.
Point is, how the hell would you store antimatter for instance? It would neutralize any substance you would try to keep it in immidiately!
