I have a few words about the hoopla surrounding the mosque being constructed a few blocks from Ground Zero. These aforementioned words are aimed mainly at people too blind to invest any time in educating themselves as to the difference between Muslims and extremists. Really, it's more than Muslims. There's extremists in every culture. If we are to judge all of Islam on the actions of Al-Qaeda and other splinter terrorist and extremist organizations, then we are obligated to judge all of Christianity on the actions of Catholics during the Spanish Inquisition and, more recently, the Ku Klux Klan and Nazis.
'But there's more to us!' you may object. And you are correct in doing so. Is it such a leap of logic, therefore, to realize that there is more to Islam than those dedicated to the 'jihad'? Beyond that, is it so hard to realize that there is more to a group of people than the broad brushstrokes we mentally paint them with?
Islam isn't your enemy. The only enemy you have is your own ignorance and fear; conquer those, and you have no reason to hate or discriminate. Without those things, the world will be a much better place.
Needless to say, I'm more than a little tired of this all...

Also, religion is trolling humanity.
I didn't just put it here. I thought for a minute and decided "what the hell."
And it's not about what religion you are. It's about people being willfully stupid and ignoring the fact that we're all essentially the same. Religion just happens to be the thing dividing us at the moment.
It's the "tl;dr" attitude that's f***ing us all over right now.
The medias have put a lot of emphasis on extremist Muslim movements. However, extremist Catholics do also exist as said. Same for Hindu and many other religions.
And as much as some will hate to hear it... You have to turn the page and leave the 9/11 where it belongs... in History. Authorities are already working on finding and bringing to justice those involved in this attack. But keeping on hating Muslims in general because of such event will not improve anyone or anything. It only creates a sociocultural stagnation, making any attempts of improving relations between both groups futile or tedious.
What does it give to blame someone for something he was not involved into?
Plus, as Zapp said. Ignorance and fear are the only enemies. Enemies which government likes to use to create some social control. Joyful
I'm not going to take a stance on this matter though. UCMJ says I can't.

tl;dr is the final nail in the worlds coffin.
And yes, people are ignorant, yes, people need to know the difference, however I highly doubt that this thread will change anyone's opinion, so it seems to be pointless.

Controversy drives up ratings. More ratings = more money. When there isn't some controversy to drive up ratings, invent one!!!
And I disagree that this isn't a topic for this forum. I like this place because it doesn't cater to one area of the world or another, I get to hear viewpoints from all over.
They have every right to do it. Nothing against them doing it, legally speaking. It's just a jerk move.
It's like putting up a statue of Karl Marx in a Siberian labor camp. Marx himself wasn't a bad guy, just wrong, but his theories were used as an excuse to make these peoples' lives awful. And like pictures of Michael Vick in a "dog hotel", it's just asking for hatred. The only "dialogue" they're encouraging is exactly the kind they're getting. Not that I condone hateful rhetoric, but they could hardly ask for it more.
In other words, they're allowed to do it, but they're jerks for doing so. I'm technically allowed to come to a funeral and start telling everyone what a moron the guy was, but I'd be a jerk for doing it. See?
I do agree with King's point on control, though. See: Patriot Act. On a similar strain, no, Bloomsburg has no business offering government property for the Cordoba Initiative. But I digress.
