Hey guys. There has been a thing in the Freelancer storyline that never made much sense to me but I never bothered too much with it and let it go. But recent events made me think a little into the past and I stumbled across this again so perhaps someone can shed some light on this one for me.
We all know (or should know) about the Coalition-Alliance war that took place more than 800 years ago in Sol. We also know that shortly after the sleeper ships were launched, a few Nomad ships came to Sol and blew the effing sun and, with it, the rest of the system. So how come we actually fought back the nomads back to their own system(s) (and temporally won the war) in Freelancer? They could have just cloaked (liked they did at Freeport 7) their "big gun" and systematically blow system after system across Sirius.
Basically, the Nomads were connected to an ancient race, and were largely destroyed when said ancient race's hyperspace gate network was reinitialized by an alien artefact carried by one freelancer called Trent.
They were defeated because advanced alien technology was used against them.
Wide awake in a world that sleeps, enduring thoughts, enduring scenes. The knowledge of what is yet to come.
From a time when all seems lost, from a dead man to a world, without restraint, unafraid and free.
Mostly retired Discovery member. May still visit from time to time.
This is a rather good point.
Possibly, big nommie ship got asploded in the sun death-thingy it created, but even then there would more than likely be more than just one...
Hmm... and wonderment, if nommies were so active back 800 years before the FL single player, how come's they were supposedly 'awakened' by the Rhienland expedition finding an active artifact, if they were clearly awake enough to nuke Sol?
Interesting questions, and seeing as how Igiss is writing the new version of Sirius history for us (I mean, Cheese-eating surrender monkeys (The French) not running away from us wtf?!) how about he explain this hmm?
Anyone else got a theory, I'd love to hear them, much as Alkaleon here, I've always wondered but not cared enough to mention it...
EDIT: Aeternus Doleo ninja'd me so in response to you:
The SP was set 800 years after Sol went Kaboom, so between the sol-nukage and the artefact being found, why were the nomad's not in the same power in Sirius that they clearly showed when the raped Sol?

It would be the most plausible explanation. But that leaves room for another question. What happened in Sol for these past hundred years? Assuming the Coalition won the war (which was the most likely outcome) then you'd think they rebuilt their fleets in a decade or so and pursue the sleeper ships' trail. The Coalition was practically the Soviet Union at the time and I don't think they would let an unfinished job just like that. There has been plenty of time for them to reach Sirius.

Good point... either way, it's not summin that there's a simple answer for.
the nomads didnt destroyed sirius like Sol because sirius is their home, and they were trying to protect it for the dam'kavosh, the race that as created the nomads but have been extict.
but nomads are like living robot guards so they dont care about if the dam'kavosh are extintc or not, they just do what they are programmed to do...
anyway i think that was the nomads that destroyed the dam'kavosh, for the safety of the dam'kavosh the nomads thougth it was best if they didnt exist, since the biggest threat to the dam'kavosh were actually the dam'kavosh... like humans and humans
