Ah, that's something I'll have to note, although...has a Mercenary IFF been brought up before? I've searched and got no results. If there's a Freelancer IFF and a Freelancer ID, I don't see why Mercenaries won't get one...
...possible to round up the Virage's hull to 10k? Hehe.
Not enough bomber cannons on the Virage? There you go.
I have an idea for the next (or even later) update. How about create capital countermeasures and cruise distruptors? Like the capital thruster, they will have more hitpoints. Both will exist in 2 versions. normal and advanced.
I am unaware if this has been posted already, but I have two suggestions. You see, it seems to me that pirates are beginning to get out of hand, practically everyone has a gunboat and typical hired mercs simply cannot stand up to them. So, I propose a new 'civilian' line of capital ships that would be available to all the major corporations.
Now, I know the argument that this should be taken care of by the Bounty Hunters or the local Police or Navy. However, in general, Bounty Hunters greatly over-charge and the local authorities tend to stay within the main system (New York, New London, etc...) or wherever there happens to be action. Furthermore, in the Independent or Border Worlds, there is nothing to stop rampant piracy.
Now, to support this claim, I would point out that the IMG and the Zoners both have their own capital ship line. Granted, the Zoners are not strictly civilian, but you see the point. Furthermore, the vast majority of pirate factions have their own capital ship lines or, at the very least, their own bombers. So why is it that only these factions are granted the capability of defending their bases? As a particular example of a faction that should require such defenses, I would use Orbital Spa and Cruise. This is among the wealthiest of factions and they maintain bases in the very edges of House space (or, in the case of the Luxury Liner Hawaii, even outside House space). In the spirit of roleplaying, wouldn't such an affluent and influential faction have taken steps to defend their bases?
Perhaps, though, actual capital ships are not required, which brings me to my second suggestion. Many of the larger transports (trains, liners, etc...) are very well armed, but are still unable to defend against mere bombers let alone gunboats and larger vessels. Hence, why not create a series of 'battle transports' (if you'll forgive my unimaginative name). Reduce the cargo size and make them dreadfully expensive, but add armor, a bigger powerplant, and gunboat-class (or higher) weapons (the Yacht takes a step in the right direction, being expensive with little cargo space and capable of carrying a single gunboat weapon.) As of now, pirates (if played correctly) have very little competition. I know this from playing as a pirate for quite some time. The reason I stopped is merely because it became boring being a bully. It would be good to make pirates work for their keep from time to time.
As a final suggestion which just occurred to me, perhaps it would be possible to make either Bounty Hunter, IMG, or Zoner capital ships available to the public. This would solve the problem nicely while removing the need for all the work involved in creating new ships.
So, there you have it, my complaints and solutions. I realize there are many issues with this idea, but I hope it is worth consideration nonetheless. I eagerly look forward to the latest release of this marvelous mod!
@Quantum Psychosis 2 bombers could take out an gunboat, try some escort next time when you don't want to get pirated. And you said "at the very least, their own bombers." have you saw how many civilians bombers are? Told you 2 bombers should be enought for one gunboat to take it down. What will be the poit of piracy if you are trading in an fortress, altrought that is the point of making RP with escorts, even the NPC's have some escorts with them.
An excellent point, however, the vast majority of Freelance pilots only escort miners. With my trader character, I have only found a single Freelancer available for escort duties and he was piloting a mere Starflier. Therefore, my point remains a valid one. I have never found an escort piloting a bomber nor do I expect to in the near future.
Furthermore, as for trading in a fortress, I should hardly think that it will be a persistent problem. You may notice that I said: "Reduce the cargo size and make them dreadfully expensive." I was thinking that they should cost at least as much as a Cruiser and have only 1000 cargo units or less. And even with such measures, a well-piloted pirate gunboat would still be able to take them out, reducing their appeal even more.
Thank you, though, for the feedback, I do appreciate it.
Just a small idea, is it possible to make a switch that darkens the HUD? kind of like a Visor that you can put down when you flying near a star, as semi-transparent black filter that goes behind the HUD. got this idea from hat xfire does when you switch to it ingame.

Is it possibile for the Dev team to make an own, custom soundtrack? Are there any legal consequences if commercial songs are used in a free mod project like this? If no, then the community could make suggestions.
