Ive always thought its only possible to dock kill someone when there undocking. because then there is a few seconds where your not in control of your ship but can still be damaged.
Now i have been told different today so i want to clear it up so no mistakes are made.
It was my opinion and those at the last server i played on that when someone is docking they have control over there ship right up until the point where you see there shield go and they go into the docking sequence at which point cant be hurt.
So it is there fault if there being chased and get stuck in a docking cue, they still have control of there ship (all they have to do is hit escape to get back control) and when there in the docking sequence they cant be hurt so can not be killed or "dock raped" (never liked that word but thats what people seem to call it).
So whats your opinions on it?, like i said to the guy ingame who said it is dock killing when docking aswell if im wrong i apologize.
Well, for the Discovery mod I'd say it's ok, because the victim has control over the ship, and Discovery because there are fast docking points in every base model. Where they are is a case of discovery:P
Ya, dock killing is meant for when a player is undocking since any damage they receive during the undocking cut sequence appears once they gain control over their vessel. If docking and a player gets stuck in a queue or long flight to the docking port they're fair game since, as you said, there's the ESC key and they are still in control. Besides, (correct me if i'm wrong) even if you shoot someone while out of control in the docking cut sequence the damage doesn't appear for the repairs at the dock.
It really depends on whether they are dockong docking rings or Jump Gates. Docking rings your invincible when you lose control of your ship.
Jump Gates, you can regain your ship up until about 2 seconds before the jump. However, I've seen people in caps get stuck, then the enemy keeps shooting them while they can't get control without F1ing. We even told the guys about it, and they said; 'We don't care.' Exact quote. That should be added in the dock rape rules. Killing them when they jump in is fine, but when they are STUCK on a JG, you shouldn't be allowed to kill them. (Exception is when sitting in docking sequence waiting their turn. They can regain control. I mean when the ship is physically stuck on the JG.)
Even if you're stuck at the JG, you can ESC to gain control again. Speaking of the JG, there are those being chased exploiting a flaw in the code where they can jump on the other side 20k+ beyond the gate. They have to hit F1 in order to do this and should be considered F1 in combat.
At that point though (widescreen, out of control), can they still kill your ship? My impression is they can shoot all they want but it won't do anything, but its been a while since i've done a slow dock while taking fire.
If it is the case that once in widescreen you can still be killed then dock raping would definitely need to cover docking just as much as undocking (ie once shields drop off indicating the widescreen effect, cease fire).
That sounds like a possibility... Considering there is also a flaw with F1 while in jump sequence launching you 20k+ beyond the jumpgate in the new system... I think both of these need addressing.
