Well, there are some questions, like for whom are you getting it, what faction is he a part of, and what are you trying to do? They're basically the same ship, so, it's really all dependent on what kind of RP you're doing and your personal taste.
So, more background if you'd like some real help?

well, i can tell you about Shire...it has 12 turrets, all firing infront and back, but he has one bug, any CD will stop him, so you will have problems with all hostile NPCs....his only weak spot, when it comes to fight, is if the enemy is atacking you from sides, you must avoid that, cause his turrets are on the side of the ship, so only 6 can fire on one side....hope this will help you

The other Chris said what I was going to say (the hivemind shouldn't surprise anyone at this point). Since it sounds like your question is related to mechanics and gameplay rather than RP, I'll specifically point to "They're basically the same ship". The Akegata doesn't have any particular angle it can't deal with, while the Shire is strongest against an opponent in the vertical plane that goes through the length of the ship (in front, above, behind, below). It's still very mean to the sides, just moreso elsewhere.
Chances are you won't notice any particular gameplay difference between them, but personally I prefer the look of the Shire.
I've fought off 'Bushido' back in the day in a Container Transport and the 'OPG' in a Shire. I can't really say which is best for combat as they are much of a muchness. I think I'm right in saying the Shire provides a slimmer target than the CT from more angles so maybe it edges it but I wouldn't hold my breath.
In certain systems with roid fields, I'd take a Shire everytime. They are both lousy but if I remember correctly, the Shire was slightly better suited.
Finally, the Shire is butt ugly but the CT is a real beaut..if thats your thing.
Thats just my experience but some user views may differ!
Aestethics aside (personally I don't like how the Shire looks) the stats seem in favor of the Kusari version. I am surprised we do not see more of them around.
